Cardinals Lead After First Round of The Robbie

Gabbi Bentancourt tops the leaderboard at 2-under-par
OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. — The Louisville women's golf team is on top of the leaderboard after the first round of The Robbie Tournament at the Highlands Course at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. All seven Cardinals are competing this weekend and six of the seven are inside the Top-10 following the first round of action. The Cardinals shot a 5-over-par 293 and have a nine-stroke lead over second place.
Gabbi Bentancourt leads the field of 39 golfers after the first round of action. She shot a season-best 2-under-par 70 in the first round and has a one shot lead over second place. The 70 ties her career-low 18-hole score that she has hit four times prior to today. She had six birdies for the round.
Veronika Exposito had the best score of the players competing in the lineup this weekend. She tied a season best with an even-par 72 in the opening round on Friday. She also had six birdies on the round, with three on the front and three on the back nine. Exposito is two shots behind Bentancourt and tied for third overall.
Beatriz Barrios was just behind Exposito after she carded a 1-over-par-73 in the first round. She tallied three birdies on the round and is tied for fifth overall.
A trio of Cardinals were tied for eighth overall after the first round. Carmen Griffiths, Millie Cottrell and Thienna Huynh all carded a 2-over-par 74 after the first 18 holes. Griffiths had four birdies on the round, Cottrell had two and Huynh had one.
Bailey Burkett rounded out the Cardinals on Friday. She shot a 5-over-par 77 in the first round and is tied for 21st overall heading into Saturday.
