Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team welcomes Evansville to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville took a 3-2 loss against No. 12 Clemson on Friday night. The Cardinals got goals from Gage Guerra and Ethan Subachan, but the Tigers scored three times in the second half to secure the victory.
The Cardinals are 5-1-0 this season in non-conference action, including a 4-2 victory over Lipscomb last week. Louisville has scored multiple goals in four of those six matches, averaging better than two goals per.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville is 6-10-0 in 16 all-time meetings with Evansville. The Aces won 10 of the first 12 matchups between the two programs from 1983-2001. However, the Cardinals have won the last four, including each of the last three years.
The Cardinals defeated Evansville 2-0 last September behind goals from Ethan Subachan and Damien Barker John in the final 12 minutes and a clean sheet from Alex Svetanoff.
NOTING THE CARDINALS
FRESHMEN CLASS MAKING HUGE IMPACT
Louisville returned five starters and 12 players overall from the 2023 squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Those returners have been huge for the Cards through 12 matches with Gage Guerra, Sander Roed, Ethan Subachan and Josh Jones combining for 36 of Louisville's 69 points.
However, the freshmen class is making its mark as well. Seven different freshmen have played meaningful minutes so far, with at least four in the starting lineup in each of the last eight matches, including a season high seven in the starting XI at Cal.
Leon Kondic scored the game-winner in the 90th minute at Kentucky. Jack Lewis assisted on Kondic's winner and tallied a winner of his own against Bellarmine, while Michael Lee got the game-winner against Lipscomb. TJ Kahoalii and Chase Vazquez assisted on the Lewis goal, while Noah De Blasis (Jacksonville) and Kondic (Tulsa) also have assists on game-winning goals.
Defensively, De Blasis and Olayinka Ogunleye have started 10 matches. De Blasis has played 855 minutes this season, while Ogunleye has logged 846.
GUERRA AMONG NATION'S TOP ACTIVE GOAL SCORERS IN 2024
Senior forward Gage Guerra has been one of the best goal scorers in the country during his college career.
Guerra tallied 15 goals in two seasons at Army before transferring to Louisville in 2023. He then immediately made his presence felt in The Ville with six goals in his first five matches. However, injuries derailed his junior season, limiting him to just seven tallies on the year.
The Houston native got off to a hot start for the 2024 season, scoring in each of the first two matches and added four more tallies in the last four contests. Guerra now has 28 career goals, the 10th-most in Division I among active players.
