Miguel Avendaño finishes 4-0 with three doubles wins to earn weekly honor
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After one week of competition, UofL men's tennis already has its first weekly award of the season. Freshman Miguel Avendaño was named ACC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
In Louisville's 3-0 record on the week, the Cardinals won the doubles point in every match, in part thanks to Avendaño.
In each match, Avendaño was a member of the doubles duo that clinched the point, including in Sunday's match against Northwestern where the doubles point came down to their court. He and his partner won the match 7-5 after being down 3-1.
In the Cardinals' match against Xavier to open the season, Avendaño also scored the clinching singles point to win the match from Court 6 in straight sets.
Over the whole week, Avendaño had a 3-0 record in doubles, playing from the No. 2 and 3 spots, and a 1-0 record in singles.
