
Former Cardinal Standouts McFerran and Pastor Set for FIH Olympic Qualifiers

Ayeisha McFerran will represent Ireland while Mercedes Pastor joins Italy in qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics
Two former University of Louisville field hockey standouts will compete a berth in the 2024 Paris Olympics in the upcoming week. Ayeisha McFerran and Ireland will take part in the Valencia, Spain venue, while Mercedes Pastor will help represent Italy in the Ranchi, India qualifier.

A total of 12 women's teams, will compete in Hockey at the Olympic Games. The teams that finish in the top-3 of each of the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers 2024 tournaments will seal their qualification to the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Five teams: Australia, Netherlands, China, Argentina and South Africa have already earned a berth as Continental Champions while host France has also gained qualification.

McFerran (Larne, Northern Ireland) played for the Cardinals from 2015-18 and became the program's first four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American. The goalkeeper finished her career ranked among the school's top three in career victories (50) victories and shutouts (20) and goals against average (1.40).

She is in her 11th season as a member of the Irish national team and became the first player in UofL history to earn a spot on an Olympic field hockey roster when she helped Ireland qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

Pastor played for Louisville from 2018-21 and was a three-time NFHCA All-American and 2020 West Region Player of the Year. The midfielder/forward was also a Class of 2020 Honda Award Finalist and 2021 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient.

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pastor played for Argentine's U21 and U18 teams and has dual citizenship in Italy and is in her first season with the Italian national team.
