Head Coach Justine Sowry collects her 200th win at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 16-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Saint Joseph's 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium.

With their second straight shutout, the Cardinals (6-2) extend their home win streak to four games this season. It also marked head coach Justine Sowry's 200^th victory at Louisville.

Following the game, the Cards honored the senior class of 2026: Gigi Edwards, Tyler Everslage, Lauren Masters, Annabel Sep, Aubreigh Uba and Emily Young along with recognition for fifth year players Tamera Cookman and Sophia Parker.

"Obviously, really happy that we can get two wins at home this weekend," said Sowry. "It's a pretty important weekend and an exciting weekend, celebrating a lot of different things. Saint Joseph's is always a formidable opponent. We played them last year, and to be perfectly honest, we were lucky to win that game… So today's game, from a defensive point of view, we wanted to take [their key players] away for the most part, I think we did a really good job of that. With the ball, we were able to execute in those moments to score a couple, but we were a little bit disconnected at times. At the end of the day, great result, but it still gives us something to work towards moving forward."

Freshman Lylah Kaminski registered her first collegiate goal with an assist from Parker and Uba added her second penalty stroke goal of the season. Senior Emily Young posted two saves en route to her fourth shutout this year.

The teams played through a scoreless first half with neither squad able to capitalize on scoring chances and delivering one shot apiece in the first 30 minutes of action.

The Cardinals struck midway through third quarter. Lauren Masters set up the play after gaining possession just outside of Louisville's attack 25-yard line. The senior made her way into the circle and sent a diving pass through the middle where Parker redirected it towards the goal and Kaminski found the back of the cage.

Louisville added some insurance early in the fourth quarter when Uba converted on a penalty stroke attempt for her second goal of the season.

Saint Joseph's (3-5) had chance late in the game after being awarded a corner, but Young turned back Adele Jardemar's shot to preserve the shutout.

In the game, the Cards outshot the Hawks 6-5 with a 4-2 edge in shots with each team earning one corner in the contest.

Louisville will hit the road next weekend with a trip to California. The Cards resume Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday against Cal and will take on UC Davis in a non-conference matchup on Sunday.
