Cards Hit Road to Face #10 Notre Dame
September 28, 2023 | Women's Soccer
This will be the second ranked team the Cardinals will face this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is heading back on the road for another weekend conference matchup. The Cardinals are heading up to South Bend to take on the 10th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday night. The Cardinals and Irish will square off at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
This will be the second ranked opponent the Cardinals have faced this season and the highest ranked opponent after facing No. 16 Virginia back on Sept. 16. Indiana and Xavier were not ranked when the Cardinals faced them and they are in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals came away with a 1-1 draw at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium against the Cavaliers, their first ever point against Virginia in program history. Graduate transfer Lucy Roberts put the Cardinals on the scoresheet in the second half and helped the Cardinals come away with the tie. Addie Chester and Fiona Gaißer had the assists on Roberts' goal and the pair have the most assists of anybody on the team. Chester leads the team with four helpers and Gaißer is second on the team with three. Erynn Floyd had four saves in the draw against the Cavaliers and she has had six games this season with four or more saves.
Notre Dame comes into the matchup with a 6-1-3 record on the season and are 2-0-1 in ACC play. They are coming off a 1-0-1 ACC week after winning on the road against #16 Duke and then tallied a 1-1 road draw against Pitt. Pitt is the lone common opponent between the Irish and the Cardinals this season as Louisville defeated Pitt 3-2 at home on Thursday, Sept. 21. Notre Dame opened ACC play with a 3-1 home win over Wake Forest and the Cardinals will face Wake down in Winston-Salem later in October. Notre Dame holds a 14-4-1 advantage all-time between the two schools.
Following Saturday's match, the Cardinals will come back to campus and gear up for a two-game homestand that starts on Oct. 5. The Cardinals will host Florida State on Oct. 5 and then Syracuse on Oct. 8.
