Women's Tennis Begins Fall Slate at June Stewart Invitational

The Cards head to Nashville to face Vandy, Ole Miss and Purdue
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team heads to Vanderbilt this weekend for the June Stewart Invitational that runs from Sept 22-24 at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville.

Opening their fall season, the Cards will face squads from Ole Miss, Purdue and Vanderbilt and the tournament will feature round-robin play in singles and doubles over three days.

On Friday, UofL will face Vandy in doubles and Ole Miss in singles. On Saturday, the Cards will take on Vanderbilt in singles and Purdue in doubles. Sunday will feature the Ville versus Purdue in singles and Ole Miss in doubles.

.Jamilah Snells is the only returnee for Louisville. She was a part of the doubles team that led the Cardinals last year with 12 wins. Beckham added two transfers: senior Lillian Mould from Oregon and sophomore Allie Gretkowski from South Carolina. He also added five freshmen to the mix: Germany Davis, Berta Miret, Elena Noguero, Lika Peresypkina, and Ibifuro Clement.

In 2022-23, the Cardinals finished 10-15 overall and 1-12 (ACC) in 2022-23. Beckham's Cardinals beat Boston College in the first round of the ACC Championship in Cary, N.C. before falling to No. 36 Syracuse in the quarterfinals

The Boilermaker squad returns seven players from 2022-23, a team that finished 15-8 overall. Purdue ended the year at No. 49 in the ITA rankings, its highest mark to finish a campaign since 2014-15.Â

Ole Miss' Ludmila Kareisova begins the year ranked No. 42 in the ITA Preseason Rankings and returns to Ole Miss after an 11-13 season, going 3-10 in SEC play. Â After advancing through the first two rounds into the quarterfinals, the Rebels' SEC Championship journey came to an end with a 4-0 loss to Florida.Â

The Vanderbilt women's tennis team finished the 2022-23 season ranked No. 30 nationally. Celia-Belle Mohr, ranked No. 19, was named an All-American and received a berth into the NCAA Singles Championship, reaching the second round. The Dores finished with a 16-12 record and were selected for the NCAA Tournament for the 28th consecutive year, going on to conclude the campaign No. 2 in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional year-end rankings. Mohr, Bridget Stammel and Anessa Lee all recorded 30-plus singles wins last season.
