September 19, 2023 | Women's Soccer
This will be the Panthers first trip to Louisville since the 2017 season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is set to finish off another three-game homestand this week when another ACC foe comes to town. The Cardinals welcome the Pitt Panthers to Louisville for the first time since the 2017 season on Thursday night. The matchup between the two teams will kick off at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium at 8 p.m. ET and it will be aired nationally on the ACC Network. It will be Noche Latina for Thursday's match in conjunction with the University's Cultural Center.
The Cardinals are coming off of a 1-1 draw against No. 20 Virginia this past Saturday night. It was the first time the Cardinals earned a point against Virginia in program history as the Cards were 0-11-0 all-time against Virginia heading into the match. After a 0-0 first half, Lucy Roberts put the Cardinals on the board in the 58th minute in her first goal with the Cardinals. The goal was just the third goal allowed all season by Virginia as they allowed just two in their first three games.
Fiona Gaißer picked up her second assist of the season on Robert's goal and Addie Chester tallied her team-leading third on the play. Chester has recorded a point in three of her last four games and leads the team with seven on the season. Erynn Floyd tallied four saves in the draw, her third-straight game with four or more saves. She has tallied four or more saves in five of her nine games this season.
Pitt enters the matchup with an 8-1-0 overall record and are 1-0-0 in ACC play after a 2-0 win on the road over NC State this past Sunday. The Panthers lone loss came to a common opponent of the Cardinals as Pitt lost 2-1 on the road against Xavier on Sept. 7. The Panthers are one of the best offensive teams in the country as they rank third in the nation in assists per game (3.44) and eighth in scoring offense (3.11).
Following Thursday's match against the Panthers, the Cardinals will go on the road for just the fourth time this season and the first time in ACC play. Louisville will head south to take on Miami on Sunday, September 24.
