Louisville scored twice in the second half to earn the win.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 10th-ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to pick up a 2-0 victory at Evansville on Tuesday evening.
Louisville (5-1-1) got back in the win column with the victory, securing its fourth shutout of the season in the process.
Tuesday's match featured 78 scoreless minutes to begin the contest as neither side was able to find the net.
Louisville's best opportunities came in the second half. Gage Guerra headed a shot ticketed for the target in the 53rd minute, but a last-second effort by the keeper deflected the ball up and over.
25 minutes later, Sander Roed took aim from outside the box, but his right-footed strike drilled the crossbar and stayed out to keep the match scoreless.
However, the Cardinals finally struck in the 79th minute. Damien Barker John played Quinton Elliot in on the left side. Elliot then sent a ground pass back into the center for Ethan Subachan and the freshman went top shelf for what would prove to be the game-winner. It was the second tally of the season for Subachan.
Louisville kept the match at 1-0 until the closing seconds when Barker John was taken down by the goalkeeper on a breakaway in the box. The sophomore then stepped to the spot and put the exclamation point on the match.
Alex Svetanoff stopped all five Evansville shots on target on Tuesday for his fourth clean sheet of the fall. The Cardinals outshot the Aces 14-10 on the night.
Louisville is back at home on Sunday night for a return to conference play against NC State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
