LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Newcomer Charitie Luper had 14 kills, hitting .231 with an ace and 10 digs to lead the Red team to a 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-14 win over the Black squad in a preseason scrimmage Saturday afternoon at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Freshman Alanna Bankston led the Black squad with 14 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Aiko Jones had nine kills, hitting .304 with three aces and six blocks.Phekran Kong had 14 kills and four blocks. Hannah Sherman led all blockers with 11. Cara Cresse had 13 kills, hit .292 with eight blocks. Kamden Schrand had 19 digs. Anna DeBeer had 12 kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Setter Elle Glock had 31 assists and five blocks. Brigitta Petrenko had 36 assists and three digs.

The Cardinals open their season in the Cardinal Classic against Troy on Friday, August 25 at 7 p.m. inside L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Set by Set Recap
Set 1
In the first set, the largest lead by either team was an 11-7 lead by the Red team, which was immediately followed by three straight points by the Black team to make the score 11-10. Neither team led by more than three points for the rest of the set, which resulted in a 25-22 Red win.

Set 2
The second set was more of the same early on, but a 5-0 run by the Red team gave them a 14-10 lead, including two Aiko Jones aces. This was followed by a 6-1 run by the Black team to give them an 18-16 lead. The Red team closed the set out with a 9-2 run to win 25-20, giving them a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3
In the third set, neither team led by more than two points up to Red leading 11-9. The Black team followed that with an 8-0 run to give them a 17-11 lead. The Red team fought back, coming within one point with Black leading 24-23, but Black finally closed it out, winning the set 25-23 to force a fourth set. .

Set 4
The Red team came out firing in the fourth set, taking an early 5-2 lead and never looking back. With their lead growing as big as 11 points, the Red team closed the match out with a 25-14 win.
