Cardinals Finish Out Competition at Joe Walker Invitational
April 08, 2023 | Track & Field
OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Louisville track and field teams closed out competition at the Joe Walker Invitational on Saturday afternoon, led by a pair of runner-up finishes from Katie Martin and Adar Sheere.
Over the two days of competition at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex, the Cardinals set ten new personal-best marks and saw four top-three individual finishes.
"We had numerous career-best performances this weekend under conditions that weren't ideal," said head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm excited about the way our teams are progressing and looking forward to seeing them get to compete in more favorable conditions in the near future. We're growing and will once again see higher and higher level performances as the postseason approaches."
Martin clocked 54.33 in the women's 400m to earn her second personal-best time of the weekend after also running a career-best in the 200m on Friday, while Sheere made his season debut in the men's discus throw with a heave of 53.53m (175-7) to capture the silver.
The men's distance crew continued to put forth solid performances, as Ryan Farrell claimed sixth place in the men's 800m with a time of 1:51.79. Freshman Nolan Satterfield bested his previous personal record in the men's 1500 by nearly seven seconds to take eighth place in the event in 3:55.
Before retiring from the decathlon competition after eight events, Justin Lehmkuhler recorded a personal-best mark of 23.25m (76-3) in the discus throw to place fifth among the decathletes in the event.
The Cardinals will return to action next weekend on Apr. 14-15 when the team splits between the first home meet of the outdoor season, the Jim Freeman Louisville Invitational, and Florida's Tom Jones Memorial.
