Paul Kallenberg finished second in the decathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The University of Louisville track and field teams continued their weekend split between three meets on Friday, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from Katie Martin.
Martin led the way for the Cardinals at Florida's Tom Jones Memorial, setting a new school record in the women's 400m hurdles. The senior's time of 57.26 bested the previous record of 57.57 that she set at last season's ACC Outdoor Championships.
Both 200m events in Gainesville also produced a pair of stellar performances as Cameron Miller clocked a wind-aided time of 19.93 to place third in the men's 200m. In the women's 200m, Kiyah Yeast blazed to a time of 23.65 that places the senior in a tie for the fourth-fastest time in school history.
The field events then saw Trey Allen claim third place in the men's high jump invitational with a clearance of 2.14m (7-0.25), while Synclair Savage rounded out the top five in the women's long jump invitational, leaping a wind-assisted 6.43m (21-1.25) on her first attempt.
The Tom Jones Memorial will continue tomorrow morning at 1:30 p.m. ET when the women's triple jump and women's 4x100m relay kick off. The day's events will be livestreamed on SECN+.
In California at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Paul Kallenberg finished second overall in the decathlon with a personal-best total of 7,575 points. The sophomore earned new lifetime bests in eight of the decathlon's ten events over the course of the meet on his way to securing the third-best decathlon point total in Louisville history.
Back in Louisville, the men's hammer throw got the first home meet of the outdoor season started at the Jim Freeman Louisville Invitational, as Erik Fertig earned a runner-up finish with a heave of 59.77m (196-1). Ethan Alyea followed close behind with a new personal-best mark of 58.51m (191-11) to take fourth place.
On the women's side, Zoe Yeast took the last spot on the podium, throwing 56.05m (183-10) on her last attempt to finish in third place and narrowly beat out Katherine Coffey, who threw 55.74m (182-10) to capture fourth.
Action in Louisville will resume tomorrow morning at noon with the onset of the men's high jump, shot put, and pole vault. Admission to Cardinal Park is free with parking provided for a $5 fee at the Floyd Street Parking Garage.
