
Cardinals Set to Host While Splitting Weekend Between Three Meets

The teams will split between the Jim Freeman Louisville Invitational, Tom Jones Memorial, and Bryan Clay Invitational.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams will split between three meets this upcoming weekend, playing host to the Jim Freeman Louisville Invitational on Apr. 14-15, while also sending athletes to Florida's Tom Jones Memorial and Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational.
"I'm excited to host the Jim Freeman Louisville Invitational this weekend," said head coach Dale Cowper. "It's our privilege to honor a legend in our sport. I'm truly grateful for all Coach Freeman did to build this program on our campus and in our community."

Gates Open: 12:00 p.m. ET
Parking: Fans are encouraged to park in the Floyd Street Parking Garage directly across the street from the facility for a $5 fee.
Clear Bag Policy: A Clear Bag Policy remains in place at all UofL athletics facilities. Fans may bring one clear bag, either a one-gallon clear Ziploc-style storage bag, or a 12 x 6 x 12 inches clear tote bag.

The majority of the team will remain in Louisville for their first home outdoor meet of the season, newly renamed to honor Jim Freeman, who became the first Black head coach at the University of Louisville when he coached the track and field programs from 1972 to 1974. The meet will be headlined by Ian Kibiwot, who set a new school record in the men's 10000m two weeks ago, and Aliyah Welter, who has already captured two event victories in the women's pole vault this season. Friday's action will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon when the men's hammer throw gets underway with the women's hammer throw to follow at the conclusion of the event.

The Tom Jones Memorial will feature a contingent of 15 Louisville athletes, including five of the six national qualifiers for the Cardinals from the 2022-23 indoor season are slated to compete in Gainesville. Cameron Miller will make his outdoor debut at 200m after an indoor season that saw him capture the 200m ACC title and earn fourth nationally at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event. Synclair Savage, who broke the Louisville outdoor women's long jump record earlier this season, will kick off the competition for the Cardinals in the women's long jump invitational on Friday at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Paul Kallenberg is set to make his season debut in the decathlon when he travels to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational after an indoor season in which he earned a runner-up finish in the heptathlon at the ACC Indoor Championships. The sophomore will compete in Section A of the event, with first of the decathlon's ten events beginning on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. ET with the 100m before wrapping up on Friday afternoon.
