LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Led by a season-high performance from graduate senior Hannah Morris, the University of Louisville lacrosse team fell 12-11 to Duke in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Sunday at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
With the loss, the Cardinals conclude the season with a 5-12 record. Duke moves to 8-9 on the season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament against Boston College.
Hannah Morris led the offense in her final game in the Red and Black, earning five goals on eight shots. The graduate senior went 3-of-4 in free position attempts.
Sara Addeche continued her stellar performance guarding the net for all 60:00 minutes. The goalie recorded 16 saves with a .571 save percentage.
"Today I thought we battled for 60 minutes," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We battled through some adversity and unfortunately, Duke made one more play than we did. We had our chances. We hit a post there at the end, we had a shot in the dying seconds and the goalie made a big-time save. I couldn't be prouder of our girls for the effort they had today. They left it on the field."
The Blue Devils scored three unanswered goals to start the first quarter. Negai Nakazawa was the first Cardinal on the board, scoring in the seventh minute of play. Duke scored again but Morris ripped in a goal with 0:10 seconds left in the first quarter to put the Cardinals down 4-2.
