Day 1 Finals are in the Books
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville swimming and diving team completed the first day of the Cardinal First Chance Invitational Thursday evening with the Illini of Illinois and the Cardinals try to whittle down times ahead of championship season.
The meet will move to Day 2 prelims Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
In the 200 IM, Illinois' Meghan Niziolek shaved two seconds off her prelim time to finish first in 2:06.92. Louisville's Ryan Hogan went 1:48.90, a second faster than his morning swim to win the men's 200 IM.
Illinois' Anna Kurzydio went 5:06.82 to win the women's 500 freestyle. John Bossler cut almost three seconds from his prelim time to post a 4:26.72.
In the 100 breast, Adry Kasemets went 1:05.21 to win the event.
In the 200 backstroke, UofI's Suvana Baskar boarded a 2:03.59 as the top finisher with teammate Meghan Niziolek was second, going 2:05.28.
Anna Kurzydio of the Illini got her second win with a 52.80 in the 100 freestyle, with her teammate Paige Koscielski touching second in 52.87. Louisville's Krista Wheeler was third in 53.20. In the men's 100 free, Cardinals Owen Taylor (44.63) and Robert Ehrenborg was second with a 45.30.
Illinois' Sophia Burwitz turned in a 2:04.51 in the 200 butterfly.

THURSDAY PRELIMS
In the 200 IM, Rye Ulett posted the fastest time with a 1:59.93 in exhibition. Jordan Durocher put up a 2:02.28 in exhibition. For the men, Ryan Hogan touched in 1:49.69 for the Cardinals with James Collins boarding a 1:50.42 and Jackson Millard going 1:46.76.
Illinois' Anna Kurzydio won the 500 free with a 5:05.14. Louisville's John Bossler won the men's 500 free with a time of 4:29.91.
In the 100 breaststroke, Ella Welch had the fastest time in exhibition with a 1:01.45. Adry Kasemets put up a 1:05.55. For the men, Luke Shourds put up a 53.58 in exhibition.
In the 200 backstroke, Louisvile's Paige Kuwata had the fastest time at 1:59.92 in exhibition. Illinois' Suvana Baskar went 2:04.33 and Meghan Niziolek posted a 2:07.73. On the men's side, James Collins went 1:46.78 and Ryan Hogan boarded a 1:48.36.
Illinois' Sophia Burwitz won the 100 freestyle with a 52.29. Louisville's Krista Wheeler was fourth with a 54.25. For the men, Michael Eastman put up the fastest time with a 42.88, followed by Guy Brooks' 42.93 and Murilo Sartori's 43.45. Owen Taylor went 44.33 and Charlie Crush had a 44.92 just ahead of Robert Ehrenborg's 45.59.
In the 200 butterfly, Gabi Albiero posted a 1:54.96 in exhibition and Illinois' Sophia Burwitz posted 2:08.16. For the men, Tommy Bried posted a 1:44.39.
