
Cardinals Fall to No. 29 Clemson in Thriller

Cards fell 4-3 to Tigers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team took No. 29 Clemson down the final set before falling 4-3 Friday night at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Cardinals lost the No. 3 doubles but Sasha Gorchanyuk and Maria Campos rolled 6-2 over Cristina Mayorova and Leigh Van Zyl at No. 2. UofL clinched the point when the No. 1 doubles pair of Rhea Verma and Andrea Di Palma won 6-4 over Eleni Louka and Samantha Buyckx.

UofL took a 1-0 lead into the singles but Clemson evened the score with a win at No. 2. Rhea Verma dispatched Clemson's Samantha Buyckx 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. At No. 4, Louisville's Tyra Richardson beat Jenna Thompson 6-4, 7-5 just moments before the Cards fell 6-1, 7-6 (4) at No. 1. Clemson tied the match at 3 with a three-set win at No. 6 leaving the fate of the match in the hands of No. 5 Maria Campos and Clemson's Daniella Medvedeva. Clemson won the first set 6-2 before Campos won the second set 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker and then Medvedeva outlasted Campos to win the set and match for the Tigers.

The Cardinals are back in action at noon on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
