Women's Tennis Opens ACC Slate with Clemson and Georgia Tech

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team welcomes Clemson and Georgia Tech to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center this weekend to open ACC play. Louisville will play Clemson on Friday at 4:00 p.m. ET and Georgia Tech on Sunday at noon. Admission is free for both matches.

The Cardinals (7-2) enter conference play on a four-match win streak. UofL won both of their matches last weekend picking up a 6-1 win over Austin Peay and a 5-2 win over Memphis. The Cards won the doubles point for both matches with wins from duo Rhea Verma and Andrea Di Palma at No. 1 doubles and duo Jamilah Snells and Cici Xin at No. 2 doubles. Two Cardinals went undefeated in singles. Competing at No. 3 singles, Verma defeated Melody Hefti from APSU 6-1, 6-2 and took down Emily Meyer from Memphis in close sets 6-4, 7-5. Tyra Richardson won both matches at the No. 5 spot defeating Yu-Hua Cheng (APSU) in dominant fashion 6-1, 6-1 and Micah Pierce (Memphis) in a comeback win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Di Palma, Snells, Xin, Sasha Gorchanyuk, and Maria Campos all picked up one win a piece through the weekend.

Clemson (10-1) swept Coastal Carolina in their lone match of the weekend. The Tigers clinched the doubles point with a quick 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles from Cristina Mayorova and Leigh Van Zyl and a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles from Samantha Buyckx and Jenna Thompson. All six singles players won their first set. Van Zyl won in dominate fashion winning 6-2, 6-0 and Sophia Hatton earned a 6-1, 6-2 win. Buyckx clinched the match winning 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 3 position. Mayorova won her singles match with a tiebreak 7-0 win in the second set at the No. 1 spot and Thompson battled back from a 1-3 third set deficit to take the match. Dani Medvedeva won a second set tiebreak 7-3 to close out the sweep.

Georgia Tech (5-2) split the weekend with a sweep over Gonzaga and a tough 4-1 loss to No. 3 Georgia. Tech swept doubles play against Gonzaga winning 6-2 on court two, 7-5 on court one, and 7-5 on court three. Carol Lee took the 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 and Mahak Jain won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 before Kylie Bilchev clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Georgia Tech finished the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win from Garcia Gross at No. 5, a 6-4, 6-2 win from Alejandra Cruz at No. 3, and a 6-4, 6-3 win from Ruth Marsh at No. 6. Georgia grabbed the early match lead after clinching doubles. Mahak Jain pocketed a 6-4, 6-4 win to pick up Georgia Tech's only point of the afternoon.
