Cardinals Open Season at KTCCCA College Opener

The event will take place on Saturday at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams begin the 2023-24 indoor season on Saturday morning at the KTCCCA College Opener in Louisville, Ky. The meet, hosted by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association, will be staged at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.
The field will be made up of 26 schools and clubs, most of which are universities located in Kentucky and the surrounding areas, while also including representatives from three Power 5 schools in Stanford, Tennessee and Texas.
Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the 60m hurdles preliminaries while the remainder of the meet will run on a rolling schedule. Admission to the meet will cost $15, and parking in two surface lots provided by the facility will be available for $5.

Trey Allen, Synclair Savage and Brion Stephens return after qualifying for the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships to lead the way for the Cardinals.
Allen and Stephens will compete in the men's high jump on Saturday after a 2022-23 indoor season in which Allen finished as the indoor ACC champion in the event while Stephens finished as the runner-up.
Last season, Allen also set a new indoor school record in the men's high jump with a clearance of 2.27m (7-5.25) and Stephens recorded a new freshman record of 2.21m (7-3).
Savage is set to contest both the women's 60m and the women's long jump after she set a school record of her own last season in the long jump with a leap of 6.52m (21-4.75) while finishing as the ACC runner-up in the event.
Last season, the Louisville men recorded their best finish at the ACC Indoor Championships in school history, placing fourth as a team while the women's team finished eighth.
The Cardinals also return eight indoor All-ACC honorees from a year ago in Allen, Jorge Contreras Nazario, Soledad Jean, Paul Kallenberg, Ian Kibiwot, Savage, Stephens and Kiyah Yeast.
