The Cardinals will play four games in addition to community service opportunities.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball program will head out on Friday for the start of a five-day international trip to the Dominican Republic for a quartet of games in addition to community service opportunities.
The program's third international trip starts with an early departure Friday morning and an afternoon arrival in Santo Domingo. The Cardinals will immediately get to work with a youth baseball clinic that evening as part of the community service outreach. The Louisville players and coaches will also visit an orphanage Saturday and spend time helping feed a village on Sunday.
Louisville's first games will take place Saturday morning with a pair of split squad contests. The Cardinals will send one team to the Los Angeles Dodgers complex in Guerra to play a Dodgers' academy team, while the other half will head to the New York Yankees complex in Boca Chica to match up against Leones del Escogido. A member of the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM), the Leones del Escogido franchise owns 16 league championships and has captured four Caribbean Series titles. Louisville tied Leones del Escogido 4-4 in 2019.
Sunday, the Cardinals will head to San Isidro to take on the Dominican Air Force team before wrapping up the baseball portion of the trip on Monday against Tigres del Licey of LIDOM. Tigres del Licey owns a LIDOM record 23 championships and won its record 11th Caribbean Series title back in February.
The five-day trip for Louisville, which coincides with the university's mid-term break, will conclude on Tuesday with the team's return home. The Cardinals are partnering with SCORE International for its housing, transportation and community service work while on the ground in the Dominican Republic.
