Payton Named Baseball America Preseason All-American

The junior led the Cardinals with a .350 batting average in 2022.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville catcher Jack Payton was named to Baseball America's preseason All-America team released on Monday morning.
Payton was a third team selection by Baseball America, which is voted on by the scouting departments of major league organizations. Baseball America annually polls major league teams to vote for its Preseason All-America teams, asking only that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential.
The junior split time between catcher and designated hitter in 2022, leading the Cardinals at the plate with a .350 batting average. His 89 hits were the most by a Louisville player since 2016, while his 23 doubles led the ACC and were tied for the fifth-most in program history.
One of four team captains for 2023, Payton earned All-ACC honors last spring and then spent the summer playing with the USA Collegiate National Team.
Louisville begins the 2023 season on Feb. 17 with a three-game series against Bucknell at Jim Patterson Stadium.
