Cardinals Close Road Trip Against James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. — After knocking off their first ranked opponent of the season, the University of Louisville women's soccer team is set to finish off its three-game road swing with a contest on Sunday against James Madison. The Cardinals and Dukes are set to square off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Cardinals are 2-0 on their swing away from home with a road win over Northern Kentucky last weekend and the 3-2 result over #23 Memphis this past Thursday on the neutral field.
In the win over the 23rd-ranked Tigers, the Cardinals scored first as they have in each of their four games this season. Another freshman, Emersen Jennings, got on the score sheet for her first career goal. Her goal was assisted from Maisie Whitsett, her fourth-straight game this season with at least one point.
Following two-straight goals by the Tigers, Louisville scored the final two of the match to secure the win. Karsyn Cherry notched her team-leading third goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2. Then another defender put the Cardinals in front for good as Anouk Denton scored her first goal of the season in the 65th minute.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 15-6-1 (.705) in September games dating back to the 2018 season. Last season in September, the Cardinals posted a 3-2-1 record and went 3-0 on the road.
ABOUT THE DUKES
James Madison finished the 2021 season with a 9-9-1 record and went 6-3 in conference play as they advanced to the Colonial Championship game. So far this season, James Madison is 3-1-1 with wins over Morehead State, Charlotte and La Salle. Forward Amanda Attanasi leads the team with three goals and eight points. She is tied with midfielder Lexi Vanderlinden for the assist lead with two each. Alexandra Blom leads the way in net with 19 saves and a .905 save percentage in 270:00 minutes of action.
SERIES HISTORY
The series is tied at 1-1 between the two schools as they will meet for the third time in program history on Sunday. Last season, the Cardinals defeated the Dukes 4-3 at Lynn Stadium on August 27. The Cardinals scored the first three goals from Maisie Whitsett, Morgan Bentley and Emma Hiscock. Delaney Snyder netted the game winner in the 62nd minute as the Cards improved to 2-0 on the young season.
