The Cardinals scored their quickest opening goal of the season against Pitt, with Aboubacar Camara finding the back of the net just 4:19 into the match. UofL has tallied the first goal of the match in six of eight contests this season, including each of the last five.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and UNC Greensboro have only met one time previously, with the Spartans defeating the Cardinals at a neutral site in 1993. The Cards are 1-2-1 all-time against teams from the SoCon and will play East Tennessee State next month.
CARDINALS REGISTER SECOND TOP-10 VICTORY
Behind goals from Aboubacar Camara and Konstantinos Georgallides, Louisville tallied its second top-10 victory of the season with a 2-1 win over No. 8 Pitt. The Cards also own a 3-1 win over then-No. 10 Saint Louis in the season opener.
John Michael Hayden has now led the Cardinals to multiple top-10 victories in two of his first four seasons at the helm, also doing so in 2019. That season, Louisville defeated No. 2 Georgetown and No. 9 Kentucky.
Four of Louisville's eight matches this season have come against teams that were ranked inside the top-10 and still has three more matches on the schedule with teams currently among the top 10.
CAMARA CLIMBING THE ALL-TIME GOALS CHART
Junior forward Aboubacar Camara has been one of the country's best goal scorers throughout his collegiate career.
Camara entered the 2022 campaign as the top returning goal scorer from last season among Power Five schools and his 66th minute strike in the season opener against Saint Louis moved him into a tie for 10th all-time in goals at Louisville.
The junior forward struck again in the wins over Florida Gulf Coast and No. 8 Pitt to move into a tie for eighth on Louisville's career scoring list with Brian Whitman (1980-82. Next up on the career scoring chart are Tate Schmitt (2015-18) and Ali Elwakhi (1980-83), who are tied for sixth with 26.
CARDS SHOWING OFF ROSTER DEPTH
John Michael Hayden spoke many times in the preseason about his team's depth entering 2022 and the Cardinals have displayed it as we approach the halfway point.
Sixteen different players have started a match for the Cards and seven of Louisville's 15 goals this season have come from players that did not start the contest.
Hayden and the Cardinals have the potential to show off even more depth moving forward after seeing the 2022 debuts of Ugochukwu Achara and Patrick Ajdukiewicz at Florida Gulf Coast. Achara tallied three goals last season and was an All-Big Ten selection previously at Northwestern, while Ajdukiewicz started 14 matches as a freshman last fall.
LOUISVILLE FRESHMEN MAKING EARLY IMPACT IN 2022
John Michael Hayden and the Louisville coaching staff added another top 25 recruiting class this summer. The group included eight freshmen, several of which have already seen extensive playing time through three matches.
The quartet of Damien Barker John, Quinton Elliot, Filip Fredhall and Konstantinos Georgallides have combined to make 23 starts through eight matches, while David Boccuzzo has taken on a larger role in the Louisville midfield.
Georgallides is the team leader with eight points, while Barker John is tied for fifth with four. Georgallides assisted on the game-winner against Seattle and then scored the winning tally off an assist from Elliot to down No. 8 Pitt.
LOUISVILLE SPREADING THE WEALTH OFFENSIVELY
The Cardinals have found the net 15 times through the first seven matches and the offensive output has come from a multitude of players.
Through eight matches, nine different Cardinals have scored and 14 have recorded either a goal or an assist.
Seventeen different Cardinals registered at least one point during the 2021 season.
