Louisville Welcomes No. 14 Indiana on Monday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville men's soccer team welcomes No. 14 Indiana to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Monday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network as Louisville (3-0-0) faces its first ranked opponent of the season. The Hoosiers enter Monday's match with a 3-0-0 record.
The Cardinals have opened the season with victories over IU Indy, Kentucky and Lipscomb, scoring eight goals while allowing four. Louisville has outshot each of its first three opponents, holding a 54-31 advantage in shots and a 25-10 edge in shots on goal. The Cards have also generated 26 corner kicks compared to 16 for their opponents.
Giacomo Zizza has emerged as one of the Cardinals' top offensive threats in the opening three matches of his Louisville career. The junior midfielder leads the team with four goals and nine points while ranking first with 13 shots and 10 shots on goal.
Zizza is one of four Louisville players to have scored this season. Andrés Escudero Martín, Johnny Petruso and Braydon Sellers have each added one goal, while Noah De Blasis and Ryan Quintos have each recorded an assist.
Monday's match carries added significance for Louisville head coach John Michael Hayden, who faces his alma mater for the first time in his coaching career.
Hayden is in his eighth season as Louisville's head coach and his 12th season overall with the program. A Louisville native and former Cardinals assistant, Hayden owns a 60-49-19 record at Louisville and has guided the program to four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Before beginning his coaching career, Hayden played at Indiana, where he helped the Hoosiers win back-to-back NCAA championships in 2003 and 2004. He scored an overtime header against Maryland in the 2004 College Cup that sent Indiana to the national championship match.
Series History
Indiana owns a 19-4-1 advantage in the all-time series, including an 8-2-1 edge in matches played in Louisville. The teams have not met since Oct. 11, 2016, when the Hoosiers earned a 2-1 victory at Lynn Stadium.
Indiana enters the matchup ranked No. 14 in the coaches poll and No. 18 in the TopDrawerSoccer rankings. The Hoosiers are also 3-0-0 on the season and have scored seven goals through their first three matches. Oliver Moller-Jensen leads Indiana with three goals and two assists, while Easton Bogard has added two goals.
