Cardinals Win Two in Fall Opener

The Cardinals defeat UIndy and Grand Valley State on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team opened the fall season with wins against the University of Indianapolis and Grand Valley State at the Louisville Lacrosse Stadium today.

The Cards began the morning with a game against Grand Valley State. The Lakers led the game 4-3 before it was sent into weather delay with seven seconds left in the half. The game was not continued after a discussion between the coaches.

UofL defeated the Greyhounds 10-3 led by four goals from junior Kokoro Nakazawa. Five other Cardinals scored including two from Hannah Morris and one apiece from Allegra Catalano, Akexa Steffens, Lauren Figas, and Rachel Lifson. UofL recorded 24 shots to UIndy's six. Freshman goal keeper Aubrey Bagenstose ended the game with one save.

The Cards then beat the Lakers 14-8 in an extended game of four 18-minute quarters. In a well-balanced offense, 12 players scored at least one goal. Nakazawa and Izzy Seikel each scored two goals. UofL outshot Grand Valley State 30-18. Bagenstose had three saves while junior goal keeper Sara Addeche had two.Â

The Cardinals head to South Bend, Ind. on Oct. 1-2 to play in a tournament hosted by Notre Dame. Opponents and game times will be announced at a later date.
