Louisville notched its second top-10 victory of the season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 25th-ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team notched a 2-1 victory over No. 8 Pitt on Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The victory is the second over a top-10 ranked team this season for Louisville (5-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC), which defeated No. 10 Saint Louis in the season opener.
Friday's match got off to a blazing start for the Cardinals, with the first goal coming in the opening five minutes.
Aboubacar Camara got on the end of a centering pass right in front of net, however his initial shot was saved by the keeper. The loose ball dropped just outside the goal where a waiting Camara was able to knock it home while lying on the ground.
The junior has now scored in consecutive matches and moved into a tie for eighth all-time at Louisville with his 22nd career tally.
The remainder of the first half saw both sides get opportunities with shots even at seven apiece over the first 45 minutes, but the Cards maintained their 1-0 lead.
Pitt (5-2-1, 2-1-0) came out of the halftime break and quickly leveled the match. The Panthers struck with the tying goal in the 51st minute.
The match wouldn't stay tied long, as the Cardinals found the answer less than nine minutes later. Quinton Elliot served a cross in from the left side and found fellow freshman Konstantinos Georgallides, who beat the keeper inside the left post to put Louisville back in front. The goal was the third of the season for Georgallides, tying Camara for the team lead.
The Cards continued to press forward with the advantage, outshooting the Panthers 9-2 in the second half. However, Pitt finished with seven saves and kept the match at just a one-goal margin.
Ryan Troutman earned his second consecutive victory in goal, allowing just the one tally on nine Pitt shots.
Louisville held a 16-9 edge in the shot column on Friday and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Louisville will host No. 18 UNC Greensboro on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
