September 01, 2022 | Men's Soccer
Kickoff against Seattle is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team will look to remain perfect on Friday night with a home match against Seattle. Kickoff at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals picked up their second straight victory with a 3-0 win over Bellarmine on Monday night. Macoumba Ba scored the opening Louisville goal for the second straight match before Brandon McManus and Marcus Jorgensen got on the scoresheet later in the match
Louisville has scored three goals in each of its first two matches and is tied for second in the ACC with six goals. The six tallies are the most for the Cards two matches into the season since putting six on the board in the first two contests of the 2002 season. The Cardinals are 2-0-0 for the first time since 2018.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Seattle are meeting for the first time on Friday night. The Cardinals are 0-2-0 all-time against current members of the WAC, losing their only matchups with Air Force (1990) and UNLV (2000).
LOUISVILLE SPREADING THE WEALTH OFFENSIVELY
The Cardinals have found the net six times through the first two matches and the offensive output has come form a multitude of players.
Through two matches, five different Cardinals have scored and 11 have recorded either a goal or an assist.
Seventeen different Cardinals registered at least one point during the 2021 season.
CAMARA ONE OF NATION'S BEST GOAL SCORERS
Junior forward Aboubacar Camara has been one of the country's best goal scorers throughout his collegiate career.
He led all ACC goal scorers during the 2021 spring season with five tallies in six matches and then finished 10th nationally with 13 goals last fall. Camara's scoring prowess was efficient as well, as his 50 shot attempts were the third-fewest among the 14 players to score 13 goals last season.
Camara entered the 2022 campaign as the top returning goal scorer from last season among Power Five schools and his 66th minute strike in the season opener against Saint Louis moved him into a tie for 10th all-time in goals at Louisville.
ROED WORKING AS SET PIECE SPECIALIST FOR CARDS
Sophomore Sander Roed made an immediate impact when he stepped on campus last year for the Cardinals. The midfielder started 16 of 18 matches and was the first Louisville freshman to earn All-Conference honors since 2014.
Since arriving, Roed has made one of his largest impacts as the set piece taker for the Cards. Roed tallied five assists during his freshman season, three of which came off set pieces (two free kicks, one corner). He has already added another here in 2022, connecting with Brandon McManus on a corner kick for the second tally against Bellarmine.
Three of Louisville's six goals this season have come off corner kicks.
LOUISVILLE FRESHMEN MAKING EARLY IMPACT IN 2022
John Michael Hayden and the Louisville coaching staff added another top 25 recruiting class this summer. The group included eight freshmen, several of which have already seen extensive playing time through two matches.
Quinton Elliot and Filip Fredhall have started each of the first two matches at outside back, while Damien Barker John and Konstantinos Georgallides have each started one match on the right wing.
Barker John and Georgallides are both second on the team with four shots taken through two matches, and both players have already recorded an assist.
