
Meet the 2022 Field Hockey Newcomers

LOUISVILLE, KY. – With preparation underway for the upcoming season, the University of Louisville field hockey team welcomes 10 newcomers to the 2022 roster including nine freshmen and one graduate transfer.

"Our incoming student-athletes are a very talented and diverse group, and we are excited to welcome them to campus," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "This is our biggest group in many years and each newcomer will bring a unique skill set, personality and energy to the team. I look forward to seeing the individual contributions each will bring. With a large incoming group, a new coaching staff, and a brand-new playing surface, I feel Louisville Field Hockey is beginning its next chapter and I am thrilled for the opportunity."

The incoming class looks to balance out a squad that includes 13 returners from the 2021 campaign. Last year, Louisville (16-4) matched a school record for wins and won its second straight ACC regular season title after compiling a program-best 6-0 record in league play. UofL spent the 2021 entire season ranked among the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Top 10, reaching as high as No. 3 and finished the year at No. 6.

Meet the 2022 Louisville Field Hockey Newcomers

Izzy Bianco
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Berlin, N.J.
High School: Eastern Regional High School
Club: Uprise
• Bianco comes to Louisville from Berlin, N.J., where she was a co-captain for Eastern Regional High School and helped lead her team to four conference titles, three sectional championships as well as the state title in 2018 and 2019.
• The midfielder tallied 104 assists in her career, setting the New Jersey record for career assists as well as the state record for single season assists when she dished out 50 in the 2021 season. She also registered 44 career goals, including 20 during her senior year.
• 2022 USA Today Field Hockey Player of the Year nominee, named 2020 first team all-state, first-team All-South Jersey and Max Field Hockey second team all-region and was a Max Field Hockey Invitational All Tournament 2nd Team selection.
• Two-time all-conference and all-Group 4 selection and ranked among Max Field Hockey's Top 10 field hockey players in the class of 2022.Â
• U.S. Rise Women's National Team Selection, selected to the travel roster for the 2022 Canada series.
• Member of USA Field Hockey Under-16 National Team. Her other USA Field Hockey accomplishments include: Young Women's National Championship and two-time Stars and Stripes selection and chosen to participate in the Junior Olympics.
• While playing for Uprise Field Hockey Club, she was a three-time Junior Premier Outdoor League Top Goal Scorer and won the Junior Premier Outdoor League MVP.

Luciana Carpenter
Position: Defender
Hometown: Green Lane, Pa.
High School: Upper Perkiomen
Club Team: X-Calibur
• Carpenter joins the Cardinals from Green Lane, Pa., where she was a four-year starter for Upper Perkiomen High School and helped lead the Indians to three straight Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC) titles (2019, 2020, 2021). Â
• The defender is a three-time all-PAC selection, named to the first team (2018, 2019) and the second team in 2020.
• Three-time all-state selection (2019, 2020, 2021) and was an all-Mercury Area second team honoree (2019, 2020).
• Despite being sidelined by injury during her senior season, tallied eight goals and four assists, bringing her career total to 23 goals and 12 assists.
• While playing for X-Calibur Field Hockey Club, helped key her team to a pair of Junior Premier Hockey Outdoor League (JPOL) titles (2016, 2017) and three National Club Championship third place finishes (2016, 2017, 2018) along with four National Indoor Tournament wins.
• Also played lacrosse in high school.

Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Woodstown, N.J.
High School: Woodstown
Club Team: South Jersey Edge
• Cuzzupe joins the Cardinals from Woodstown, New Jersey where she helped lead Woodstown High School to three South Jersey, Group 1 titles along with its first-ever state final appearance.
• As a senior captain, she was named the team MVP after tallying 29 goals and dishing out 18 assists for 75 points in the 2021 season.
• The four-time all-conference selection finished her high school career with 47 goals and 35 assists (129 points).
• While playing for the South Jersey Edge Field Hockey Club, the midfielder was tabbed the Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) MVP after keying her team to the Under 19 championship.
• Also played lacrosse in high school.

Sasha Elliott
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
High School: Het Amsterdams Lyceum
• Elliott joins the Cardinals after four seasons as the starting goalkeeper at VCU.
• The Amsterdam, The Netherlands native is a two-time NFHCA All-South Region selection, earning first team honors in 2021 and second team honors in 2020.
• Finished her time at VCU with a 1.08 career goals against average, a 0.766 save percentage and 17 shutouts in 61 games.
• Helped the Rams to an NCAA tournament appearance and the Atlantic 10 title in the 2020-21 spring COVID season and a pair of Atlantic 10 runner-up finishes (2018, 2021).
• As a senior, earned All-Atlantic 10 second team honors and ranked sixth nationally with a 0.95 goals against average and fourth with save percentage of 0.819.
• In the 2020-21 spring season (following the COVID-19-impacted fall), tabbed as the Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player and earned All-Atlantic 10 and VaSID first team honors while producing a 0.67 goals against average and an 0.816 save percentage.
• In 2019, led the Atlantic-10 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .746 save percentage, standing fourth and 18th in the NCAA in those categories respectively.
• Named to the All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team in 2018.
• Prior to her time at VCU, Elliott played for Pinoké MA1 U18 team in the highest Dutch league and recorded the lowest goals against average at Pinoké amongst 72 goalies (all levels) during the 2016-17 season. Additionally, she helped her team finish first in the league and won the national championship with the MA2 (U18-2).

Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Denville, N.J.
High School: Morris County School of Technology
Club Team: Centercourt Elite
• Jancerak comes to Louisville from Denville, New Jersey after playing for Morris County School of Technology and Centercourt Elite. The Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference first team selection was included among the top 50 goalkeepers in the class of 2022 according to Max Field Hockey.
• While playing in the USA Field Hockey system, Jancerak established an impressive resume while being named to the 2020 U.S. Under-16 National Team and the 2021-22 U-15 National Indoor Development Team.
• Selected for the Rise National Team in 2021 after being named to the Junior National Team in the 2019-20 season.
• Competed in the Young Women's National Championship in 2021 and the Stars and Stripes (2018-19) as well as the 2018 Junior Olympics.
• Helped Centercourt Elite win the U19 National Indoor Tournament Pool A in 2021 and Pool B in 2019.

Position: Defender/Midfielder
Hometown: Den Bosch, The Netherlands
High School: Stedelijk Gymnasium Den Bosch
• Kroon comes to Louisville from Den Bosch, The Netherlands where she was captain of the Dutch National Under-16 team.
• The defender/midfielder also played for the Dutch National U15 team and the Regional Talent U14 squad.
• Helped her teams to the Dutch National Indoor championships as well as the EuroHockey Club Cup as well as a trio of top-four finishes in the Dutch National Championships.

Ella Martin
Position: Forward
Hometown: Louisville, Ky.
High School: Assumption
Club Team: IFHCK
• Martin elected to stay in her hometown to play for the Cardinals. The Assumption High School product helped lead the Rockets to the state title in 2019 and a runner-up finish in 2021 as well as quarterfinal showings in 2018 and 2020.
• The forward tallied 54 goals and dished out 24 assists throughout her high school career and was a second-team all-state selection in 2019 and 2021.
• Named to the 2021 regional all-tournament team.
• Ranked among Max Field Hockey's top 100 players in the nation for the class of 2022 and was a Top 40 West/Midwest Region High School Player to Watch.
• While playing in the USA Field Hockey system, she was selected for the 2019 AAU Junior Olympics and was a U16 National Futures Bronze Medalist.
• As a member of the IFHCK club team, she was a two-time National Indoor Tournament participant and scored seven goals in the U19 Disney Showcase to help her squad to the bronze medal.
• Also competed in swimming while in high school.

Position: Midfielder/Forward
Hometown: Doylestown, Pa.
High School: Central Bucks East
Club Team: WC Eagles
• Parker comes to Louisville from Doylestown, Pa., where she played for Central Bucks East High School East and served as the team captain and was the MVP in 2021. The midfielder/forward and helped key the Patriots to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association AAA state semifinals and the district 1 championship in 2020. CB East also captured the Suburban One League title from 2018-20 and reached the state quarterfinals in 2018.
• The 2021 MaxField Hockey Regional Player to Watch was named to the NFHCA All-Region second team.
• Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches Association (PHSFCA) AAA All-State first team pick in 2021 and earned an honorable mention in 2020.
• Two-time Suburban One League selection, earning first team honors in 2021 and was named to the second team in 2020.
• While competing in the USA Field Hockey system, she was a 2022 U19 Nexus Championship selection, participated in the Stars and Stripes Elite Game and was an AAU Junior Olympics selection in 2019.
• Played for WC Eagles Red club team, leading the squad to a runner-up showing in the 2021 National Indoor Tournament (NIT) and was named to the Regional Club Championship and National Club Championship Training Squad.

Position: Forward
• Ramsay joined the team in January 2022 and hails from Brisbane, Australia, where she attended St. Peter's Lutheran College.
• The forward served as captain of the Queensland U18 National Team and the U19 Metropolitan West School team.
• Member of the U18 Brisbane Women's Hockey League Division 1 state team.
• Helped her teams capture the U18 Hockey Australian national championship along with the U19 Hockey School Sport state title and the Big Hockey Hit Out championship in 2021.
• Named the 2021 St. Peter's Lutheran College Most Outstanding Player and was a Gryphon Hockey Ambassador in 2021.
• The multi-sport athlete has also competed in swimming, water polo and cross country.

Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Gibsonia, Pa.
High School: Pine-Richland

• Wollerton joins the Cardinals from Gibsonia, Pa. and played for Pine-Richland High School where she amassed 139 career goals and 41 assists while notching a pair of school scoring records with 33 goals in 2018 and 2019 and 56 in 2021.
• As a senior, the team co-captain led the state in goals and helped Pine-Richland to its second straight Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League title and a state semifinal appearance in 2020.
• Capped the season as an all-state and National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region first team selection.
• Twice named the Post Gazette Player of the Year, a first team all-state selection and WPIAL All-Star (2020, 2021). Additionally, she was a finalist for the USA Today National Field Hockey Player of the Year.
• Prior to her time at Pine-Richland, played for West Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia and was the team's leading scorer, finished the 2019 season as the Southeastern District Player of the Year, an all-state selection and as a second team all-Tidewater honoree.
• In the USA Field Hockey system, was chosen to participate in the USA RISE selection camp, the U19 Stars and Stripes, Nexus Championship and Nexus Elite in 2021. The U16 Futures Level I competitor helped her team to the U16 National Futures Region 8 Championship.
