
Cardinals Are On The Biggest Stage at FINA World Championships

Here is the update after the first weekend of competition
The University of Louisville swimming and diving team was off the blocks during the first weekend of competition at the 2022 FINA World Championships at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

Cardinal Forever Mallory Comerford was the second leg on the 4x100M Freestyle Relay for the United States. Comerford split 53.86, helping the US women to a 3:35.23 to qualify second going into the finals.

Cardinal senior Abdelrahman El-Araby swam for his native Egypt on the men's 4x100 Freestyle Relay prelims and put up a 50.88 on the third leg as the Egyptian team put up a 3:19.46 to finish 15th.

For the Serbians, Cardinal Forever Andrej Barna went 47.25 on the third leg of the 4x100 Freestyle Relay in prelims, helping the Serbs to a time of 3:14.26 and eighth place finish, propelling the Serbs into the finals. Â In the finals, Serbia knocked off nearly a second with Barna second in the water. Andrej swam a 47.06 as the Serbs finished 8th with a 3:13.83.

For Israel, Denis Loktev boarded a 48.86 as the third leg in the 4x100 Free Relay as the Israeli's went 3:15.35 to qualify as an alternate.

Denis Petrashov finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke for his native Kyrgystan. In the 50M breast, he turned in a time of 27.89 for 20th place. Â

Loktev was back in the water for Israel, this time in the 200M Freestyle, where he finished 18th with a time of 1:47.63.

Abdelrahman El-Araby swam the 50M butterfly in 23.64 to place 23rd.
In the 50M Breaststroke, Louisville signee Kledi Kadiu of Albania was 40th in the 50M breaststroke with a time of 29.15.Â
