Louisville is seeing marked improvement this weekend in North Carolina
The University of Louisville rowing team completed the first two rounds at the Lake Wheeler Invitational at Lake Wheeler Park, the site of this weekend's intercollegiate rowing event on Friday. The Cards finished with two firsts and two seconds in the second round of the day.
Â
In the first round, first off the docks was the 3V8 boat that took third in 7:22.140. Navy won the heat in 7:10.060. Next to race was the V4+ boat that crossed third with a time of 7:36.875 in a heat won by Navy in 7:29.982. The 2V8+ registered the first win of the day, crossing first with a time of 6:50.494. Â
In the second round of racing, the 3V8+ crossed the finish line second just .724 of a second behind winner Kansas.Â
Sophie Reimers, who rowed in the 3V8 boat said, "In our racing today, we not only saw improvement in our first race, but also carried out our goals and technical focuses into the next. We were head-to-head with our opponents which only made us push harder and harder. Today's racing and tomorrow's has proved how much potential us as the 3V8 have, along with the other boats, and how much more we can grow throughout the next couple weeks."
Â
The V4 boat won in 7:41.496. The 2V8 boat finished second just 1.146 behind Boston College.
Â
McKenzie Vaughn of the 2V8 boat said, " It is awesome to be winning now. I loved this team through our struggles and it is amazing to be a part of this process of gaining speed, skill, and experience. I can't wait to race again tomorrow." Â Â
Â
The V8 boat wrapped up the day on a high note, going 6:41.517 for the win.
Â
Meghan Greene of the V8 boat said, "It is really exciting to see how much speed we're gaining and how much we are improving as the season goes on. It feels so good to see our hard work is paying off and it has been such a special experience to do it with this team."
Â
