
Louisville Opens 2022 Lacrosse Season at Colorado on Friday

The Cardinals and the Buffaloes are set to begin play at 4 p.m. ET on Pac-12+.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse begins its 2022 season this Friday on the road in Boulder, Colo. as the Cardinals take on the Colorado Buffaloes. The game is set for 4 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Pac-12+.

Last season, the Cardinals finished 5-11 after playing the toughest schedule in Division 1 lacrosse.Â

Louisville is 10-4 all-time in season openers and 5-2 in the past seven openers. They won four straight from 2015-2018. Their only losses in the past seven are to top 10 teams - at No. 7 Northwestern on Feb. 8, 2019 and last season they lost 14-7 against No. 8 Florida on Feb. 13, 2021.

Louisville is 3-3 in season-opening road games. They won their last season-opening road game, a 16-11 victory at Cincinnati on Feb. 9, 2020. This marks the fourth time in five seasons, all under head coach Scott Teeter, that they open the season on the road. They are 2-1 in season-opening road games under Teeter. All-time, the Cardinals are 8-6 in their first road game of the season.

Colorado went 8-7 in 2021, losing its final game to Stanford in the Pac-12 Tournament Championship. The Buffaloes were picked to finish second in the Pac-12 preseason poll, earning one of six first place votes, after finishing third last year. Colorado returns its top two goal scorers from the 2021 campaign in senior Charlie Rudy and grad-student Sadie Grozier. Rudy led the Buffaloes with 45 goals with Grozier scoring the second-most with 39 while leading the team with 52 points. Both Rudy and Grozier ranked in the top-5 in the Pac-12 for free-position goals per game, free position percentage and goals. Last season, the Buffaloes scored 11.7 goals per game while only giving up 10.9 goals per game. They led the Pac-12 in clearing percentage (.927), free position percentage (.454) and saves percentage (.479) in 2021.

Last Meeting (Feb. 18, 2021) - Louisville came out strong in the first half and held on to beat No. 24 Colorado 12-9. Ally Hall and Caroline Blalock netted goals to build a 10-4 lead with 27:04 to go. Colorado mounted a comeback scoring four straight goals to trim UofL's lead to two, but the Cardinals attack remained strong as Caroline Blalock and Alex McNicholas scored a goal each to build the lead back up to 12-8 with 11:01 remaining in the game. Hall led the Cardinals with four goals and one assist, while Caroline Blalock added a hat trick of her own.Â
