Women are First, Men Fifth After Day 1 At SMU Classic

Cardinal women won both relays to take the lead
DALLAS -- The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up night one of action at the SMU Classic on Friday. The two-day event is being held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
The Louisville women stand in first place with 150 points followed by USC (142), Michigan (134), Missouri (127), Miami (105) and SMU 98. The UofL men are in fifth place after a day of racing with Texas leading the field with 160 points. Missouri is second (136.5) followed by Michigan (133), Texas A&M (129.5), Louisville (111) and SMU (95).
The event welcomes top competition from around the country and features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1 and 3 meter.

The UofL women started the classic with a win in the 400 medley relay when Tristen Ulett (53.64), Cecilia Viberg (59.95), Gabi Albiero (50.84) and Christiana Regenauer (48.36) put up the winning time of 3:32.79 which was an NCAA B-cut time.

The men touched fourth in the 400 medley relay with Dalton Lowe (46.81), Denis Petrashov (52.42), Abdelrahman El-Araby (47.23) and Murilo Sartori (43.69) combined for a time of 3:10.15.

In the 400 IM, Paige Kuwata touched second in the B-final, boarding a 4:16.25 which was an NCAA B-cut. On the men's side, Jackson Millard touched fifth in the A-final with a time of 3:53.61. Denis Loktev was sixth in the B-final with a time of 3:55.10.

Louisville's Paige Hetrick won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.21for a B-cut and Madie Hall was second in the B-final with a time of 1:48.04. For the men in the 200 freestyle, Murilo Sartori was the top Cardinal with a fifth place time of 1:37.12. Cardinal Guy Brooks was third in the B-final with a time of 1:34.94 which was also an NCAA B-cut.

Gabi Albiero scored another first place for the Cardinals, when she out-touched Michigan's Lindsay Flynn with the winning B-cut time of 22.17. Teammate Christiana Regenauer won the B-final with a time of 22:41, also a B-cut.  For the men in the 50 free, Abdelrahman touched third, stopping the clock at 20.04 in the A-final. Cardinal freshman Charlie Crush was fourth in the B-final with a time of 20.31 in a tightly contested race.

In 3-meter diving, UofL's Jiselle Miller put up a score of 277.95 to place fourth. Louisville's Adam Sneden was sixth on the 1-meter board with a mark of 247.30.

In the 100 butterfly, Gabi Albiero beat the field by two seconds, putting up a time of 51.19 which set a meet record. Christiana Regenauer won the B-final with an NCAA B-cut time of 52.31, the second fastest time of the entire field. In a wild finish on the men's 100 fly A-Final, Dalton Lowe touched third with a B-cut time of 46.78. Abdelraham El-Araby was fifth in the B-final with a time of 48.72.

Tristen Ulett notched another Cardinal A-final win, this one in the 100 back when she turned in a 53.43. Teammate Paige Hetrick was third in the B-final with a time of 53.98. In the men's 100 back, freshman Charlie Crush put up the fifth place time of 48.56. Over in the B-final, newcomer Guy Brooks touched fifth with a time of 50.15.

In the 100 breaststroke, freshman Cecilia Viberg was third with a time of 1:00.67, good for an NCAA B-cut time. In the B-final, Madie Hall was fifth with a time of 1:02.67. On the men's side, Denis Petrashov dueled Texas' Caspar Corbeau down the stretch to touch second in 52.72 for an NCAA B-cut. In the B-final, Jackson Millard went 58.31.

The Cardinal women won their second relay of the day when Paige Hetrick (1:47.29), Rye Ulett (1:49.43), Paige Kuwata (1:48.90) and Tristen Ulett (1:46.90) put up the winning time of 7:12.52, two seconds ahead of second place USC. The Cardinal men's foursome of Murilo Sartori (1:37.53), Guy Brooks (1:37.08), Denis Loktev (1:36.33) and Dalton Lowe (1:37.37) went 6:28.31 to finish third.
