Cardinals Return Home to Host Clemson
October 04, 2022 | Women's Soccer
Thursday’s match will kick off a three-game homestand for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team returns home after a nearly three-week road swing as it opens up a three-game homestand Thursday night. The Cardinals are set to take on Clemson at 7 p.m. from Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium and the match will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
This will be just the fifth home game of the season for the Cardinals as they have had six of their first 10 games away from home. Louisville is 2-1-1 this season at home with shutout wins over UIC (3-0) and Miami (1-0). The Cardinals have shut out their opponent in three of their four home games so far this season.
Louisville will be missing a key piece of their defense as sophomore defender Anouk Denton got called into the England U23 Training Camp for the most recent international segment. She will be training with England from Oct. 3-11 as they prepare for two friendlies against Norway and Sweden. Denton has progressed through the English National Teams as she competed for the U19 squad this past summer at the 2022 UEFA Women's U-19 Championship.
So far this season for Louisville, Denton has started all 10 matches on the back line and played 90 minutes in each match. She has helped the Cardinals record five shutouts this year and scored the game-winning goal in the 3-2 win over #23 Memphis.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Clemson is 5-4-2 on the season and 1-3 so far in ACC play. They are coming off a 1-2 loss at home against NC State in their lone game last week. The Tigers have lost their last three games after winning their ACC opener against Notre Dame on Sept. 15. Senior Caroline Conti leads the Tigers with four goals and 11 points on the season and she is tied for the team lead in assists with Renee Lyles with three. Halle Mackiewicz has led Clemson in net with 34 saves on the season and a .694 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals lead the all-time series 2-1-1 between the two schools and are 1-1 in games played in Louisville. The two teams played last season in Clemson and finished in a 1-1 draw. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Ravin Alexander scored her first goal of the season in the 46th minute to tie the score and led to the draw.
