No. 7 Louisville Plays Host to No. 24 Duke, Ball State This Weekend

WHAT'S HAPPENING
October 14 vs. Duke, 6 p.m.
• Friday's matchup will mark Louisville's annual "Pink Game" to promote breast cancer awareness.
• It will also be the Cardinals' Friends of Jaclyn game. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local teams, clubs and community groups. • Upon the conclusion of the game, Louisville will unveil the plaques for 2021 All-Americans: Alli Bitting, Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb.
October 16 vs. Ball State, 2 p.m.
• On Sunday, Louisville will celebrate senior day, honoring Sasha Elliott, Emilia Kaczmarczyk, Julie Kouijzer, Kelsey McCrudden, India Reed, Mattie Tabor and Minna Tremonti throughout the day.
NOTE CARDS
• The Cardinals bring a 10-3 record and an 0-3 mark in ACC play into the weekend after a 2-0 win at No. 16 Liberty on Sunday. Before that, Louisville lost 2-0 at No. 16 Wake Forest on Friday.
• Friday's contest against Duke will mark the third straight ranked opponent for Louisville. So far, the Cardinals have played the seven games against ranked opponents and are 4-3 in those games with wins against then-No. 4 Michigan, No. 13 Princeton, No. 11 Penn State and No. 16 Liberty.
• Sunday's victory at Liberty extended Louisville's non-conference win streak to 10 games this season.
• The Cardinals have registered 25 goals this season with nine different players contributing to the total. Five players have registered multiple goals.
• Aimee Plumb leads the team with 16 points (5G, 6A). She is tied among Louisville's goal scorers with Julie Kouijzer and Katie Schneider who also have five apiece.
• Four of Plumb's five goals have stood as game winners against Penn State, Penn, Fairfield and Liberty. She stands second in the ACC in game-winning goals.
• Graduate transfer Sasha Elliott (10-3) carries a 1.00 goals against average, standing third in the ACC and seventh in the NCAA. She also leads the nation with an .843 save percentage .
• Plumb was recently named to the NFHCA Collegiate Watch List. She was also selected to the 2022 Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey team in a vote by the league's seven head coaches. The Cardinals were picked to finish fifth in the regular season.
• Louisville started the season with six straight wins for the third straight consecutive year before falling to then-No. 2 North Carolina on Sept. 16.
HEAD COACH JUSTINE SOWRY
2021 ACC Coach of the Year Justine Sowry is in her 12th season at the helm. During her time at Louisville, she has guided the Cardinals to 162 wins, six NCAA tournament appearances reaching the quarterfinals twice and advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history in the 2020-21 season.
• Under Sowry's tutelage, Louisville has tallied three conference titles, including back-to-back ACC regular season crowns (2020, 2021) as well as a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC Championships.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

• Julie Kouijzer's goal in the fourth minute of the game lifted the fourth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team to a 1-0 win at No. 18 Duke at Jack Katz Stadium.
Scouting the Blue Devils: Duke brings a 5-8 overall record and an 0-4 mark in ACC play into the weekend.
• The Blue Devils are coming off an 8-1 win at Richomond on Sunday. Prior to that, they suffered a 3-2 loss against No. 6 Virginia on Friday.
• Issy Carey leads the team with seven goals while Hannah Miller has scored five goals and dished out nine assists for a team-best 19 points.
• Piper Hampsch (4-6) carries a 2.34 goals against average and has one shutout on the season.
CARDINAL CONNECTIONS: The Blue Devils are coached by Pam Bustin, who is in her tenth season at Duke. Prior to that, Bustin spent 13 seasons (1998-2010) as Louisville's head coach.
• Current Louisville head Justine Sowry served as an assistant under Bustin at UofL from 1998-2002. She replaced Bustin after the 2010 season.
• UofL volunteer assistant coach Abbey Heird was also an assistant under Bustin while she was at Louisville from 2007-12.
Ball State, October 16, 2 p.m. (ACCNX)
Series Record: Ball State leads the series 15-13, Louisville has won the last seven meeting.
NOTE: The bulk of the series between Louisville and Ball State dates back to when both teams were members of the Mid-American Conference (Louisville was an affiliate member in field hockey only from 1994 through 2004.
Last Meeting: March 7, 2021 - Louisville won 5-0 at Ball State.
Scouting the Cardinals: Ball State brings a 6-6 overall record into the week before a Friday Mid-
American Conference matchup against Bellarmine which will be played at Trager Stadium.
• The Cardinals are coming off of a 5-3 loss against Michigan State on Sunday.
• Fleur Knopert leads the way offensively wth eight goals, four assists and 20 points.
• Hannah Johnston (2-3) and Ally Butler (2-3) have split goalkeeping duties. Johnston carries a 3.51 goals against average while Butler has a goals against average of 5.10.
CARDS SEVENTH IN NFHCA COACHES POLL
UofL stands at No. 7 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings released on Oct. 11. The Cards held steady at seventh following a 2-0 win at No. 16 Liberty and a 2-0 loss at No. 14 Wake Forest last weekend.
Earlier this season, Louisville was ranked in the top five for four straight weeks, reaching as high as No. 4. The Cards started the 2022 campaign at No. 9 in the preseason poll.
• The Cards have been ranked among the top 10 for the last 37 ranking periods spanning back to the 2019 season when they appeared at No. 8 on Sept. 10.
• Louisville has now spent 102 consecutive weeks in the top 20 in the nation dating back to the 2013 season.
NEXT UP
The Cardinals will go back on the road, this time heading to New York to face No. 11 Syracuse in an ACC matchup followed by a trip to Cornell.

Louisville is coming off of a tough road stretch, facing three ranked teams in two weekends. Louisville went 2-2 during that span with wins at No. 16 Liberty and VCU.
