Louisville’s Strong Defensive First Half Not Enough, Succumbs to No. 1 Florida State

The Cardinals held the Seminoles scoreless in the first half, but could not overcome three second half goals in a 13-minute span.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's soccer held No. 1 Florida State scoreless in the first half, but could not overcome three second half goals in a 13-minute span and fell 3-0 at Lynn Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Louisville falls to 6-2-1 on the year and 2-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while FSU improves to 10-0 and 3-0 in league play.
Louisville limited Florida State to just two shots in the first half, none of which were on goal, and the two teams went into the locker room at half scoreless.
It marked just the fourth time this season that an opponent has held the Seminoles without a goal in the first half.
Florida State got in the board in the 53rd minute on a free kick just to the left of the box. Jenna Nighswonger sent the ball into the box, which found the head of Beata Olsson for the goal.
The Seminoles added goals in the 63rd and 65th minute to build a 3-0 lead and that's how it ended.
After limiting Florida State to just two shots in the first half, the Seminoles finished with 10 on the game, while the Cardinals had three shots. Four of FSU's shots were on goal, while one was on goal for UofL.
Louisville remains home to host Wake Forest next Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
