
Louisville Hosts No. 1 Florida State on Sunday

The Cardinals and Seminoles will kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After opening Atlantic Coast Conference play with wins at Miami and Syracuse, University of Louisville women's soccer returns home to host No. 1 Florida State on Sunday. The match will begin at 1 p.m. ET and broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Louisville enters Sunday's match with a 6-1-1 overall record and they are 2-0 in league play.

The Cardinals are facing the No. 1 team in the country for the sixth time in program history. They are 1-4 all-time against No. 1 teams with their lone victory a 2-1 overtime win against North Carolina at Lynn Stadium on Oct. 8, 2015. Louisville last played a No. 1 team last year on Oct. 29 when they fell 3-1 to North Carolina.

UofL tied No. 16 Michigan 1-1 earlier this year and is 0-0-1 against ranked teams this year. The tie ended a seven-game losing streak to ranked teams. Their last win over a ranked team was a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Clemson at Lynn Stadium on Oct. 10, 2019. Last year, the Cards went 0-4 against ranked teams and 5-3 against unranked teams. In 2019, they went 2-4-1 against ranked teams.

Delaney Snyder scored her third goal of the season in the 13th minute of the 2-1 win at Syracuse on Thursday. She is now tied for the team lead in goals with Nina Nicosia and Emma Hiscock. Snyder has scored those three goals on just five shots this season. She has three shots on goal this year and all three have resulted in goals. She has scored a goal in three of five matches played this year.

Anouk Denton scored her first career goal and game winner on the first penalty kick attempt of her career in the 90th minute of the win at Syracuse. She is the fifth Louisville freshman to score a goal this season.

Florida State enters Sunday's match as the No. 1 team in the country with a perfect 9-0 record. They are 2-0 in ACC play with a 4-1 win over Boston College and a 5-0 win over Pitt. Florida State heads into Sunday's game with shutouts in five of the nine games to start the season. FSU has shut out 12 of their last 19 opponents. The Seminoles are currently on an eight game road winning streak dating back to their 2-1 win at Wake Forest (10/27/19). This is the longest road winning streak in school history. The Seminoles return 10 of their 11 starters from the national champiÂonship game. Florida State returns players that accounted for 94.6 percent of their points (106 of 112), 97.6 percent of their goals (40 of 41) and 86.7 percent of their assists (26 of 30) from the 2020 season.

Last Meeting (Sept. 20, 2020): Despite Gabby Kouzelos' career-high nine saves, Louisville lost 1-0 at Florida State. Louisville's best chance came at the 35th minute of the first half after Delaney Snyder was fouled, which set up a free kick near the corner. Emina Ekic delivered the free kick to the left side of the box and Sarah Hernandez's header was saved in the top left corner. The Seminoles got on the board 15 minutes into the second half when Kouzelos come out of the box to cover the ball, but it came out of her grasp and Leilanni Nesbeth kicked it into the back of the net. Louisville was outshot 26-2 and 10-1 on shots on goal.
