September 21, 2021 | Men's Soccer
Louisville defeated Northern Kentucky 4-0 on Tuesday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A ball found the back of the net just 27 seconds into the match and the University of Louisville men's soccer team was off to the races in a 4-0 victory over Northern Kentucky on Tuesday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The win was the third straight for the Cardinals, their first three-match winning streak since Nov. 4-11, 2018 when they won three straight on the way to winning the ACC Championship.
The night got off to a fast start as the Cardinals quickly gained possession and Pedro Fonseca found Sander Roed for an easy tap-in 27 seconds into the contest. It was the second-fastest Louisville goal on record since 2001, trailing only a goal by Justin Pierre 26 seconds in against IUPUI on Sept. 1, 2002.
Louisville (5-2-0) quickly doubled its advantage in the sixth minute, as Macoumba Ba blasted a curling shot into the upper right corner of the net for his first career goal.
Ugochukwu Achara made it a trio of first half goals late in the first half, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead after 45 minutes.
Aboubacar Camara was once again in the scoring column in the 65th minute, putting home a cross from Jamie DiLuzio for his fifth goal of the year. It was the fourth consecutive match with a goal for Camara, making his the first Cardinal to tally a goal in four straight matches since Tim Kubel did so from Oct. 10-21, 2014.
The Louisville defense took care of the rest. Detre Bell handled the first 45 minutes and Gavin Krenecki made his collegiate debut in the second half. Bell turned away the only shot on goal he faced, while Krenecki finished with a pair of saves.
Louisville ended the night with 26 shots, its highest total since also tallying 26 against Belmont on Oct. 4, 2016.
The Cardinals are back in action on Friday night as they return to conference play against Boston College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
