Cards Split Matches at the Cavalier Match Play Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville's women's golf team won its semifinal match and lost in the quarterfinals during the first day of competition at the Cavalier Match Play tournament at Birdwood Golf course.
The fifth-seeded Cardinals will face the winner of the North Carolina-NC State matchup at 9:25 a.m., which was suspended Tuesday due to darkness. UNC was leading 2-1 with two matches to be completed.
The second round will resume at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday. The individual competition will start it final round at 10:05 a.m. The loser of the UNC/NC State match will meet Richmond starting at 10:37 a.m.
The Cardinals downed Richmond 4-1 during the afternoon round and fell to No. 20 Maryland 3-2 in the morning.
In Louisville's semifinal win vs. Spiders, Hana Ryskova picked up a 1 Up victory, while Lauren Hartlage dominated in her performance with a 5 & 4 victory. Margot Bechadergue won her match in 19 holes and Mairead Martin earned a 4 Up win.
In the opening match, the Cardinals dropped a tight encounter to Maryland, with Bechadergue and Hartlage picking up victories.
In other quarterfinal matches, No. 2 Duke dispatched Richmond 5-0, No. 14 Virginia Tech handed North Carolina a 3-2 loss. Virginia defeated NC State 5-0.
