No. 19 Louisville Succumbs to No. 1 North Carolina in ACC Tournament Opener
April 28, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
Ally Hall had two goals and reached 100 career goals in the 19-6 defeat.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 19 University of Louisville women's lacrosse hung tight in the first half, but ultimately fell 19-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament quarterfinals against No. 1 North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Cardinals move to 5-11 on the season and 0-10 against Top 10 teams, while the Tar Heels improve to a perfect 16-0.
"I thought we battled and we played hard. They've been the No. 1 team in the country since the preseason, but we threw everything we had at them. They capitalized on our mistakes and we couldn't stop the bleeding on some of their runs," said head coach Scott Teeter.
Â
Trailing 7-1 midway through the first half, Louisville went on a 4-2 run, with two goals from Ally Hall and one from Nicole Perroni and Hannah Morris, to pull within 9-5 with 4:15 to go.
Â
North Carolina scored the final two goals of the first stanza to take an 11-5 lead into the break.
Â
The Tar Heels then scored the first eight goals of the second half prior to Caroline Blalock finding the back of the net with 21 seconds to go for the final score of 19-6.
Â
Goalkeeper Rachel Florek was under pressure the entire game, but made several highlight worthy saves. She finished with 13 saves and a .406 save percentage in nearly 54 minutes.
Â
Hall and Blalock led the way with two goals apiece. Blalock added an assist, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Hall's second goal marked the 100th of her career, making her just the 11th player in UofL history to reach the century mark.
