Cardinals to Host NCAA Regional for First Time in School History

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time in school history, the University of Louisville women's golf team will play host to an NCAA Regional.

The Cardinals were selected for postseason play for the seventh consecutive season and 13th time in program history after they were announced as one of 18 teams to compete in the Louisville Regional. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played May 10-12 at University of Louisville Golf Club – a first in the history of the program. The men's team hosted a regional for the first time in 2019.

For Louisville, the seventh straight appearance is the longest streak in program history. The Cardinals are the No. 12 seed in the 18-team region that features six teams inside the top 25 of the latest Golfstat rankings.

Top-ranked South Carolina is the top seed in the regional followed by No. 9 Florida State and No. 8 Auburn. No. 18 Texas is the fourth seed and No. 16 Arkansas is the fifth seed. Â No. 21 Texas Tech and No, 27 UCLA are all in the field as well.

"I'm excited for our team to earn an opportunity to advance to the post-season, and have the chance to compete against some of the best programs nationally, head coach Whitney Young said. "We are thrilled to be able to host a regional at the ULGC. "The ULGC has a tremendous golf course and the facility ranks up there with some of the best. We're excited to be able to showcase our golf club to some of the top programs in the country."
The Cardinals are looking to build off their postseason performance from 2018, when they took fourth at the NCAA San Francisco Regional to qualify for their second-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships. In their last NCAA event during the 2019 campaign, the Cardinals placed 11th in the NCAA East Lansing Regional.

Louisville is coming off a seventh-place finish at the ACC Championships after Lauren Hartlage broke the school record with her 23rd top-10 finish after placing in a tie for sixth place. Hartlage is ranked as one of the top players in the league after finishing the regular season with a 72.13 stroke average and posted four top-20 finishes.

Hana Ryskova is another player to watch during regional action after she finished with a 74.00 stroke average and one top-10 finish.
The top six teams and top three individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, held May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The 24 advancing teams and 12 individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion.

The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket with match play to determine the national champion.
