LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 24 University of Louisville women's golf team returns to the course after nearly a month off when it competes at the Valspar Invitational this weekend in Augusta, Ga. The two-day, 54-hole event will be held at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
Saturday's opening round features a shotgun start at 8 a.m. from the first and 10th holes. Sunday's final round gets underway at 9 a.m., also with a shotgun start.
The field includes seven teams ranked in the current Golfstat top-25 standings: Augusta, Coastal Carolina, No. 2 Duke, No. 5 Florida State, Furman, Kennesaw State, No. 17 Kent State, Memphis, Notre Dame, Purdue, No. 3 South Carolina, South Florida, Virginia Tech and No. 1 Wake Forest.
The Louisville lineup will feature senior Lauren Hartlage, sophomore Hana Ryskova, junior Mairead Martin, sophomore Agustina Gomez Cisterna, and Margot Bechadergue.
In their first event of the spring, the Cardinals closed the final round of the Moon Golf Invitational on Feb. 14-16 by shooting a 3-over-par 291 to finish the tournament in 10th place.
Martin, Hartlage and Ryskova each tied for 13th place overall by shooting a 1-under-par 215.
Martin shot the round of the day for the Cardinals by firing a 3-under-par 69 on the final day of the tournament. She carded a 73-73=69=215 during the three-day event, while Hartlage shot 72-72-71=215 for the three-day event. The senior shot 1-under-par on the front nine and played an even-par round to close the day.
Established in 1926, Augusta University's Forest Hills is a much loved staple within the Augusta, Georgia golf community. This 18 hole course holds remarkable history from Bobby Jones beginning his 1930 Grand Slam of Golf at Forest Hills in the Southeastern Open to College events where future greats like Phil Mickelson (1989), Davis Love III, (1981, 1982) and others competed. Forest Hills is home to the Men's and Women's Jaguar Golf Teams and became a part of history again when the Men's Team successfully defended their 2010 NCAA Division I National Title to earn their second consecutive National Championship in 2011.
