
Eli Shoyat Competes at the FINA World Cup

Freshman Cardinal is on US National Team competing in Berlin
BERLIN -- University of Louisville freshman swimmer Eli Shoyat has completed four of his events at the 2021 FINA World Cup in Berlin, Germany with two more on tap for tomorrow.

Shoyat, who is from Ft. Mitchell's Beechwood High School, is on the US National Team.  A mid-distance and distance specialist out of Northern Kentucky Clippers Swimming, he also competed for Powel Crosley Jr YMCA.

Racing in short course meters, In the 400 freestyle Shoyat was 30th overall in the 400M freestyle, posting a 3:55.56. The winner was Lithuania's Dana Rapsys, who turned in a 3:38.19.

In the 100M fly, Shoyat turned in a 57.51 for 38th place overall. The gold medal went to fellow American, Tom Shields, who put up a 48.67.

Shoyat's best finish so far came in the 1500M freestyle, when he boarded a 15.39.24. Germany's Florian Wellbrock, an Olympian medallist, posted a 14:35.23 for the gold medal. Â

The Ft. Mitchell, Ky. Native placed 22nd in the 200M butterfly with a time of 2:06.90. The event was won by South Africa's Chad Le Clos, who went 1:50.32.

Shoyat is listed to compete in the 400 IM and the 200 Free on Sunday with prelims beginning at 4 a.m. ET.
