October 16, 2021 | Cross Country
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams closed out the regular season Saturday morning in its first-ever appearance at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational.
The men placed 8th to open the morning, while the women added a 13th-place finish amidst the talented fields competing at the Watts Cross Country Course.
"We were really pleased with our effort today. Both teams competed shorthanded this morning, but our runners gave no excuses and competed well against a talented field," said assistant coach Eric Heins. "Their performances today will provide the program with momentum as we head into the championship season."
Leading the Cardinals for the men was Ian Kibiwot, who posted the field's second fastest 4.5K split and finished fifth with a time of 23:41.0. Kibiwot has now recorded a top-five finish in two of his first three collegiate meets after taking home the individual title at the Tennessee Dual to open the season.
Two other Cardinals finished inside the top-50 with Albert Kosgei placing 23rd at 24:09.2 followed by Isaac Kiprop in 45th at 24:35.7. Following the trio was Ben Ewert, who finished 58th with a time of 24:44.3. Ethan Meyer rounded out the scorers with a personal-best 8K of 25:17.2.
Emma Bryant notched the top finish for the women, fighting through the pack through the final half mile to place 11th with a personal-best 6K of 20:54.9. Ivine Chemutai and Megan John were the next two to cross the line at 21:52.0 and 22:12.5, respectively. Kassidy Dill added a time of 22:27.2 followed by Callie Friske at 23:10.1.
