All ACC middle blocker is home in South Carolina
Throughout the remainder of the 2020, we will check in with the players on the University of Louisville volleyball team as they complete their semesters online. This week we check in with Anna Stevenson. The transfer from Auburn carries a 3.783 GPA in sports administration.
Q: What are your thoughts on spring season being cancelled?
A: I am obviously disappointed, but I just feel for the athletes who were in season. I can't imagine having our last season having been cancelled. Spring sports won't get the chance to do what we were able to do, and so many of the teams were doing so well. I just feel for them.
Q: If you could say something to the basketball players/swimmers/indoor track athletes who do not get a senior season back and missed their championship what would it be?
A: I can't imagine what you're feeling, but just know that you have had such an impact on Card nation and your teammates.Â
Q: What would you say to the spring sports who lost a whole season? Â
A:  I honestly don't even know what to say. I hope that they enjoyed every minute of what they had, and we all hate that it got cut short.Â
Q: What are you doing with yourself during your free time?Â
A: I'm hanging out with my boyfriend, working out with him, enjoying watching some good 30 for 30 documentaries, and hanging out and playing games with my family!
Q: What did you do for spring break?
A: I was able to enjoy all of my spring break plans. I went to Philly with an old friend and we went to New York for a day. We went and saw the 76ers play the Pistons, which was one of the last NBA games to be played! It was my first (and last) NBA game of 2020.Â
Q: How are you continuing to stay in shape during this time?
A: I was doing workouts with my boyfriend. He plays baseball here at Louisville and so he has done my volleyball workouts Sean sends, and I will do his that their strength coach sends. It is fun to work out with him, even though he wins.
Q: Your impressions on the spring season up to the point when it was suspended?
A: I am so proud of our team and especially how we pushed ourselves in the weight room. We made big gains on the court as usual, but I just love how hard everyone works in the weight room. We really push one another.
Q: What do you miss most about being on campus?
A: Seeing my teammates and our coaching staff!! I will also miss just walking around to class and seeing people I know. But I guess that this will make coming back for summer that much sweeter.Â
Q: Have you and your teammates been keeping in contact through all of this and how?
A: I have group Facetimed people, I text my teammates just about every day, and just keep up with them on Snapchat and team Zoom meetings.
Q:Is there anything you would like to say to Card Nation?Â
A: Go Cards! I can't wait to get back and get to work. I love this group of girls and I trust every one of us to be ready to go when we get back.
Q: What is your favorite memory of this season?
A: My favorite memory would probably be when me and Aiko really started connecting on blocking. It just felt like so good to be up there with her. Some of my favorite blocks were in our game against Notre Dame at South Bend when Mel got hurt. I just felt super confident next to Aiko and she must have too, we had some good ones.Â
Q: What is your favorite memory as a Cardinal? Â
A: I have no single favorite, but my favorite memories are just milling around and annoying Dan Meske up in the offices with Piper and Emily (Dani coined the term "milling around" one day because she was like "what're y'all doing up here again? just milling around?"), or maybe at Syracuse when we were practicing and literally three of the coaches got kicked in the face with a ball. Dani accidentally kicked it into Dan's face or something like that, and then our GA Merideth got DRILLED. I don't even remember who all got hit but it was hilarious. It's always fun when Dani plays. Or maybe just the whole "For the Blazer" movement. That red sparkly blazer of Dani's is awesome.Â
Q: Are you home or on campus?Â
A: I spent time in Ohio with my boyfriend's family, but we stayed at my place for a week and then I went home again. I have been enjoying riding bikes, watching the Mandalorian, and playing Scrabble.
Q: How have people in your family been directly affected by the virus?
A: My mom now works from home which I really enjoy. Everyone in South Carolina is doing pretty well. We are just enjoying being home together!Â
