Louisville, Ky – In the sixth episode of Where Are They Now, swimming and diving assistant coach Kameron Chastain chatted with Cardinal Forever and 2016 graduate Nolan Tesone about his time on the team and how UofL prepared him for his future.
Â
"UofL has the process in place to allow you to be the best athlete you can be," said Tesone.
Â
A Colorado native, Tesone always had his eyes on Louisville. On his recruiting trip, he got the feeling that this was the place for him because of the team, coaches, facilities and the institution.
"The coaching staff and the institution I really felt did an amazing job conveying what they would be able to do for the longevity of my athletic career before I even stepped foot on campus," he said of one of the factors that made him choose UofL.
Â
From his time on the team, Tesone wanted to be an All-American when he came in as a freshman.
He said, "one thing the coaching staff was super beneficial of is laying out the framework, what is it going to take to get there and if it's not going to happen immediately how do you build on your seasons to get there." Talking about how he made the big jump to All-American in one year he said to start with defining your why and be mindful of everything you do."
Â
Today, Nolan is the Director of Campus Partnerships at Grit Digital Health that that provides technological solutions to approach behavioral and mental health and well being across populations. As the Director of Campus Partnerships, he is in charge of selling and licensing their platform geared to college students. He has seen the company grow from six campuses to 115 across the nation.
"One of the components I think UofL really set me up for is leadership. Especially being on the swim team, there's really good opportunity to take initiative and be in that position and moving into a professional career I think it helped me take initiative and really define the career that I wanted for myself, which I have been able to do," said Tesone.
Â
Nolan's favorite memory of his time at UofL would be the NCAA experience all together his junior and senior year. Competing and seeing the talent at the level was extremely important. Another favorite memory of his was watching Kelsi (Worrell) qualify for the Olympic team at the Olympic Trials.
"It was just a culmination of her hard work and defining her why and what she set out to do and seeing that finally come to fruition was really special,"Â said Tesone.
When asked what he would say to recruits who might be considering UofL as their future home, Tesone said, "Having a process in place stepping on campus that allows you to succeed as an athlete is a huge game changer. Not only that, but the ability to succeed in your personal and academic careers alongside that and be able to accomplish those goals with your athletic career allows for a really fulfilling life.
