
Cards Win Four Golds, Silver and Bronze in Fast Night Three at ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The University of Louisville Cardinals used four golds, a silver and a bronze to vault into third place after three days of racing at the 2020 ACC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

North Carolina State stays in the lead with 853 followed by Virginia (762), Louisville (746), Virginia Tech (596), Florida State (589.5), Notre Dame (558.5), UNC (486), Pitt (385), Georgia Tech (379), Duke (344), Miami (197), and Boston College (102).

Nick Albiero WINS GOLD First place medal in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 44.86 for an NCAA A-Cut time. He chased down leader Coleman Stewart of NC State on the last lap for the win. Nick reset his own school record and set a pool record this morning in prelims. Teammate Haridi Sameh finished fifth in the B-final with a time of 46.44 just ahead of Cardinal Mitchell Whyte, who 46.53 in the same heat. In the C-final, UofL's Nikolaos Sofianidis finished fourth with a time of 47.10.

Virginia's Frederick Schubert took top honors in the 400 IM when he turned in a 3:40.01 to make it a medley sweep for the senior. UofL's Jarrett Jones took third in the B-final, posting a time of 3:46.81. UofL's Daniel Sos won the C-final easily with a time of 3:47.97 and teammate T.C. Smith was fourth in the 400 IM C-Final with a time of 3:51.54.

Colton Paulson throws down a 1:33.77 to WIN GOLD in the 200 Freestyle. Trailing UNC's Tomas Sungaila for most of the race, Paulson put up a  split of 23.60 down the final two laps with Virginia's Samuel Schilling and Paulson both passing a fading Sungaila for the top two spots.   Andrej Barna touches second in the B-final, boarding a time of 1:34.37 Michael Eastman stopped theStopwatchin 1:35.90 in the B-final of the 200 Freestyle for 8th placeSam Steele WINS the C-final of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:34.54 almost a second faster than his prelim time

Evgenii Somov WINS GOLD in the 100 breaststroke with a 51.85 Double exclamation mark He defended his Crownfrom a year ago with the invited time! Sasha Palazzo finishes second in the B-final of the 100 breaststroke with a 53.09

NC State's Coleman Stewart took the gold in the 100 backstroke for the third consecutive year, with an ACC record and the top time in the country to date. In a blazing fast finish, Cardinal Mitchell Whyte won silver with a time of 44.64 and Nick Albiero took bronze in the 100 backstroke with a time of 44.75 with the top three  finishers all putting up A-cuts and going under 45 seconds. Cardinal Nikolaos Sofianidis was into the wall eighth in the A-Final boarding a 47.05 to add to UofL's point total.
