Cardinals Set for 2020 ACC Indoor Championships

Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field team will begin postseason at the ACC Indoor Championships this weekend. Notre Dame will serve as host for the 2020 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held this Thursday (Feb. 27) through Saturday (Feb. 29) at Loftus Sports Center.
There is no charge for admission. Notre Dame is hosting the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships for the second time, and for the first time since 2017.
The championship kicks off on Thursday with the heptathlon at 11 a.m., followed by the commencement of the pentathlon at noon. The first day will conclude with the men's and women's distance medley relays.
On Friday, the final events of the heptathlon will kick off the competition while track events and field events will begin at noon with the women's high jump and the men's 5000m run. The competition will conclude on Saturday with the women's 4x400m relay at 3:50 p.m.
The top three finalists in each event will receive medals and will earn first team All-ACC honors, while third through sixth place will be named to the second team. Members of the winning team in the relay events will be named first team All-ACC, while second place and third place members will earn second team honors.
While competing for ACC team and individual titles, the Cardinals will also seek to enhance their rankings heading into the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships, scheduled for March 13-14 at the Albuquerque (New Mexico) Convention Center.
ACC Network Extra will return to provide coverage at the Friday and Saturday sessions. Play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney will be joined by veteran analyst Larry Rawson and statistician/researcher Dave Milner from 2 p.m. through 8 p.m. on Friday and from noon until the meet's conclusion (approximately 4:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Louisville women finished fourth at the 2019 ACC Indoor Championships while the men finished 10th . Alivia Ash and Dorcas Wasike earned ACC titles in the high jump and 3,000m, respectively. Five Cardinals earned first team All-ACC honors while 10 Cards earned second team honors.
Ash cleared a personal best of 1.78m/5-10 to secure her first ACC title in women's high jump and earn first-team All-ACC honors last season.
Wasike became a two-time ACC Indoor Champion last season after cruising to a win in the 3,000 meters. She clocked a time of 9:24.05 for her second career indoor title. She also earned her second first team All-ACC honor in the 5,000m with a runner-up finish.
