LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf program signed a pair of high school seniors to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, head coach Whitney Young announced.
Louisville inked Carmen Griffiths and Gabbi Bentancourt and will join the program in the fall of 2021.
Griffiths joins the women's program after a successful scholastic career for the Aberdeenshire Ladies team from 2018-20, where she was a four-time Aberdeeshire girls champion from 2016-19.
"I am so excited and very grateful to be joining the University of Louisville women's golf team. Everyone has been so encouraging and supportive and I am looking forward to working hard and competing at a high level. "
She recently represented Tom Watson at the Major Champions Invitational in 2020 and was selected to play for Great Britain and Ireland in the Junior Vagliano Trophy in 2019.
During the 2019 season, Griffiths was a Barrie Douglas Scottish Junior Masters Champion and posted runners-up finishes at the British Girls U16 Open Championship and the Cyprus Girls U18 Open Championship. That season she added another second-place finish at the Paul Lawrie Foundation Junior Jug.
Playing overseas, Griffths won the 3rd Telegraph Junior title in 2019 and a four-time Junior Tour winner.
She was the youngest Aboyne Ladies champion at the age of 11 and later won the Aberdeenshire Championship at 14.
Betancourt was one of the top players in the state of Texas, ranking as a top 100 prospect in the American Junior Golf Association rankings and qualifying for the USGA Women's Amateur Four Ball Championship.
"I'm excited to be a part of the University of Louisville women's golf program," Betancourt said. "I'm looking forward to contributing to the success of the team. I'm so blessed to have this opportunity."
A first-team all-state selection, Betancort was a regional champion and a two-time District 5A champion. She posted six top-10 finishes in AJGA tournaments, including two second-place finishes.
A two-time North Texas High School Golf Coaches Association Honor team, Betancourt was the 2019 Texas Legends Junior Tour James A. Reagan Sportsmanship Award Recipient.
