Cards move to 4-1 with the 25-18, 25-21, 27-25 win
Aiko Jones had 17 kills to lead the No.9-ranked Louisville Cardinals to a 25-18, 25-21, 27-25 sweep over the No. 8 Syracuse Orange in ACC volleyball action Saturday night in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. Â

Louisville hit .216 and tallied 7 blocks with Tori Dilfer adding a match-high 33 assists. Anna DeBeer and Anna Stevenson contributed 12 kills and 7 kills, respectively. Alexis Hamilton led the match in digs at 16, edging out teammate Claire Chaussee with 12. Syracuse hit .136 and was led by Polina Shemanova who had kills with 13. The Cardinals led the Orange 47-34 in kills, led by Jones' 17.

Louisville took control early in the first set, gaining a 9-3 advantage including an ace from Alexis Hamilton. The Cards maintained their dominance of the first set by extending their lead to 19-10, accompanied by four kills for Anna DeBeer and three blocks for Amaya Tillman. Syracuse showed signs of a comeback, but was promptly put to rest with a kill from Anna DeBeer to finish the set, 25-18.

The second set started with a back-and-forth between the Cardinals and the Orange, before Syracuse scored four straight points to take a lead of 9-5. The Cards found themselves deadlocked with the Orange at 18 after being down 14-9. Louisville then went on to outscore Syracuse 7-3, capped by a kill from Anna Stevenson to take the set 25-21.

Syracuse scored the first two points of the third set, followed by Louisville scoring six in a row to take a 6-2 lead. Despite strong kills by Aiko Jones and Amaya Tillman, the Orange scored five straight points to take a 15-14 lead. Louisville ultimately took the set and secured the sweep after a block by Amaya Tillman and a kill from Aiko Jones gave the Cards a 27-25 advantage.

The Cardinals (4-1) will face-off against the 11th ranked Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday, October 23rd at Fitzgerald Field House for a 7:00 p.m. match.
