
Rachael DeMarcus Joins the Cardinals

Setter transfers from South Alabama
Rachael DeMarcus, a 5-7 setter from Lexington, Kentucky, has transferred to the University of Louisville to join the Cardinal volleyball team.

DeMarcus was the setter for the University of South Alabama for the last two seasons. The Jaguars went 20-11 last season with an 11-5 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. South Alabama earned 20 wins in the regular season, including a program-record 15 home wins at Jag Gym. The Jags' 20 victories are the most by a South Alabama team since 1989.Â
" We are very excited to add Rachael to our team and are looking forward to seeing the impact she will make," said Dani Busboom Kelly, UofL head coach. "Some of our current athletes have played with Rachael and speak very highly of her as a setter, but more importantly as a person and a teammate. She shares our goal of making history every year at Louisville volleyball."Â

The Cardinals are coming off an historic season when they advanced to the Elite Eight after knocking off No. 2 Texas 3-2 at the Austin Regional after first round wins over Samford and Western Kentucky.

2019 (Sophomore): Â DeMarcus appeared 93 sets and led the Jags in assists with 906. She was second on the team in aces with 25 and recorded 196 digs and 23 blocks. She had 42 kills for a hitting percentage of .145. DeMarcus recorded her seventh double-double of the year, finishing with 49 assists and 11 digs along with two kills in the quarterfinal match of the Sun Belt Conference Tourney against Texas Arlington.
2018 (Freshman): Â Appeared in 26 matches with 17 starts ... Â Ranked eighth in the Sun Belt Conference in assists per set (6.83) ... Also ranked eighth in the league in assists per set (8.10) in conference matches ... Named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week on Nov. 5, after recording 78 assists for an average of 11.14 assists per set in a pair of matches against Troy ... Finished with 30 or more assists in eight matches ... Recorded five double-doubles on the season, which ranked second on the team ... Finished with a career-high 50 assists against Arkansas State (Nov. 15) in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and tied her career high in digs (13).

Named the 2017 Region 11 Player of the Year and earned first-team all-state honors from the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association … Helped BSHS to a 29-8 record in 2017 … Named first-team Lexington all-city by the Lexington Herald Leader in 2016 as a junior at BSHS … Holds the career assists record at BSHS as well as the single-match assists record with 62… Earned Lexington all-city honorable mention as a freshman at Lexington Christian Academy in 2014 … Helped KIVA 17 Red to a runner-up finish at the 2017 AAU Open National Championships.
