Volleyball Hosts NC State and UNC to Open ACC Slate

Cards finish non-conference season at 7-3
The University of Louisville volleyball team opens its ACC season by hosting NC State at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 27 and North Carolina at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, with both matches to be contested in the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Cardinals finished their non-conference season with a 7-3 mark and are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. UofL is 3-2 in conference openers since joining the ACC and  is 19-3 in conference opener since 1995. Â
The match with NC State has been designated as a Black Out. Â
Louisville
The University of Louisville volleyball team is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. Â UofL split its matches in its final non-conference matchups last weekend. The Cardinals fell 3-0 to rival Kentucky. Louisville's Anna Stevenson had eight kills and five blocks but it was not enough as the No. 16-ranked Kentucky rolled 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 in Lexington. Â The Cardinals hit .070 with two aces and seven blocks. Â Tori Dilfer led with 16 assists with Aiko Jones adding six kills and three blocks. Â Kentucky hit .347 with nine blocks and six aces. The Wildcats were paced by Leah Edmond's 15 kills two aces and two blocks.
Melanie McHenry tied her career-high with 30 kills and four blocks to lead the Cards to a 3-2 win over RV Cincinnati in Fifth Third Arena. Â UofL won 25-18, 27-29, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13 and hit .358 with six aces and 14 blocks. Â Aiko Jones added 16 kills with two aces and four blocks. Alexis Hamilton had fifteen digs and Tori Dilfer had a season-high 54 assists. Cincinnati hit .285 with two blocks and 50 digs to drop to 8-4.
NC State
The North Carolina State volleyball team is off to a 5-7 start to their 2019 season. They are coming off of a 3-0 win over Furman on Sunday. The Wolfpack are being led by junior opposite hitter Melissa Evans with 188 kills on the season. She currently leads the ACC in kills and is third in the ACC conference with 3.92 kills per set. Redshirt sophomore setter Kaylee Frazier is currently second in the ACC conference with 223 digs. Â Head coach Linda Hampton-Keith is entering her fourth year at the helm and helped lead the Wolfpack to their first NCAA tournament win in program history in 2017. The last meeting between these two teams was on September 21, 2018 where the Cardinals won 3-1. The Cardinals will be going for their third straight win against North Carolina State.Â
UNC
The North Carolina Tar Heels volleyball team are off to a 3-7 start to their 2019 campaign, coming off of wins over Colgate and Radford on Saturday. Freshman outside hitter Parker Austin has led the Tar Heels this season with 104 kills. Sophomore setter Annabelle Archer leads the team with 266 assists, which is 9th in the entire ACC conference. The Tar Heels are led by Joe Sagula who is entering his 30th season at North Carolina and has led his teams to 7 NCAA tournament appearances in the past 9 seasons. Sagula earned his 600th win as the head coach of UNC this season against UC Irvine. The last meeting between these two teams was on September 23, 2018 where the Cardinals won 3-2. A win this weekend, would be the Cardinals third straight win over the Tar Heels.
